F. will be installed this evening. The pews of the Church of the Messiah will bo rented for the ensuing year this Monday evening, commencing at 7 o'clock. The North Towanda school closed on Fri day. Mr. THOMPSON will hereafter devote his time and talents to the practice of the law. M. C. Wells, the White Sewing Machine agent has removed his office from the Music store to Wood & Co.'s Gallery, third story Patton's block. The abutments of the Sugar Creek bridge, in North Towanda, have been greatly dam aged by the ice and high water this spring.— Timelv repairs saved the structure from dis truction. The well-known banking firm of PARDEE, MARKLK & GRIER, Ilazleton, has been dis solved by the retirement of Mr. GRIKR. The business will be continued by the other members of the firm. The funeral services commemmorative of the late Mrs. ENNIS will be held in the Uni versalist church, Standing Stone, a< noon to day. Friends will meet at the residence of JOHN M. IIAIIM at 10 o'clock to escort the re mains to that place. We hope everybody will not only remember the benefit to be given in the M. E. Church parlors Wednesday evening, but be present and contribute according as the Lord, " who loveth a cheerful giver," hath prospered them. In our notice of the sale of horses on .Satur day, by an inexcusable and stupid blunder of the type setter, the name of S. B. TIDD ap peared where it was plainly written PECK.— S. B. PECK, the well-known horse dealer of Tioga, is the gentleman intended to be men tioned. The annual meeting of the Towanda branch of the " Mutual Relief Society " of Roches ter N. A new firm has been formed which will open for business in the store lately occupied by En. E. LOOMIS, Troy. The firm is corn dosed of WALTKR B. GKRNERT, HENRY C. GERNERT, and FRED MCCOLLUM, under the fiirm nome of GKRNKRT BROTHERS & Mo COLLUM. The store is being remoddeled to accommodate the new firm who expect to open for business about the first of May. While the Herdic Coach Company docs not altogether fill the requirements of cheap and rapid transit, its enterprise is in the right di rection and promises to eventually develop into a useful public service. The community which has thus tar liberally supported it will be glad to learn, therefore, that the ruMors recently current of its impending bankruptcy HTC altogether unfounded, and that it is pros pering and expects to soon enlarge its opera tions.— Press. Mr. HAYT, proprietor of the Itathbun House, sported a fine new steel gray team yesterday, which he purchased in Towanda. They are for the omnibus, day work, a fine sorrel team doing the night service. The steel grays will together weigh 2,400 pounds, and are so well put together and symmetrical, that they are greatly deceptive as to their av erdupois. Mr. IIAYT believes in having things first-class, and is bound to be progres sive rnd keep a good hotel. — Elmira Adv. While excavating i t the poor house on Monday last, between tee insand department and the house, workmen came on the skele tons of two Indians lying with their heads to the east and some distance apart. The bones were considerably de aved, with them was a fresh water clam shell, probably used as a spoon. It was the custom of the Indians to bury with the dead a small quantity of food to last them to the spirit-land, and a spoon with which the defunct could eat it.— Troy Gazette.
