HELP YOURSELF.—Young men depend al together too much on somebody else to get a life in the world. They don't rely enough on themselves. The day of "self-made men" appears to be passing. The young men of the present age fawn around politicians, doing their dirty work and helping along disreputa ble schemes, in hope to he appointed to some position where the work is light and the pay heavy. This is no way to succeed, You can not build up a reputation or a fortune on the expense of otlnjrs. You must he the architect of your own fortunes. Don't ask anybody else to help you get an education or anything else. Ten thousand men are now serving their day and generation with usefulness and honor, who never asked anybody to grind an axe for them. Young man, paddle your own eauoe, and ten to one you will reach the win ning stake ahead of any competitor who re lied upon rich relatives or political friends to help him along. ANOTHHR ROBBERY NEAR ATHENS.—Last night the residence of Mrs. Joseph M'lvin ney, an aged widow lady living two miles south-east of here, was entered by two mark ed men who presented pistols to the heads of * a grand child, Miss Mary Vvheaton, and Mr. William Mallory, who lived with them, and demanded money. Mallory grappled with his assailant and would have succeeded in se curing him if the other had not interfered. — The girl rati for help hut was pursued and dragged back to the house. The struggle continued for u time, hut the girl and Mal lory were overpowered, both having made a desperate resistance and received severe inju ries; Mallory's being of a serious nature about the head. The thieves escaped with about S3OO in money of the ©ld lady's, and a watch worth S4O, belonging to Mallory. Judge Lynch would he too kind u magis trate to dispose of such rascals; he should he an Indian, and the punishment death by tor ture. WILL. Athens, Feb. 20. EDS.
