SENECA ARNOLD, the vigilent bridge watch man, has given another evidence of the wis dom of his selection for the position, as well as his practical interest in the traveling pub lie, by placing a powerful light at the Towan da entrance to the bridge, so arranged that it throws its beams to the eastern extremity. TOWANDA, PA., WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2, ISBI. ' PRICE ONE CENT. ORANGE BLOSSOMS.—There have been many brilliant and fashionable weddings in ; this vicinity during the past season, but like the wine at the marriage in Cana, the most j enjoyable and pleasant of all of them was the last one. We refer, of course, to the mar riage of Miss EMILY JOSEPHINE, daughter ! of L. J. CULVER. Esq., and PHILIP C. Com, ,of New York city. The ceremony was per- I formed by Rev. C. F. KKLLUY, of this place, ! in - beautifully impressive manner, while the 1 modest yet dignified demeanor of the twain ; who were being made one, as they took upon themselves the solemn obligations, elicited the profound admiration of the guests assem bled to witness the nuptials. The passages j from Holy Writ as well as the admirable ex tempore remarks by the officiating Priest add j ed interest to the occasion, and we have uo j doubt deepened conviction in tlie sanctity of ! the marital relation. The bride who is both ' beautiful and accomplished, was becomingly ! attired in a dress of pale blue silk, and could not have looked more charming. The groom j is a fine looking young gentleman who gave ; unmistakable evidence of culture and superi or intellect, lie was educated in Paris and ; Germany and speaks several different lan ! guages fluently. The guests were mostly re 1- : atievs and near neighbors. Among tho<e present were the following: Mrs. ABEAM J PATIKRSON, Mrs. DEWING, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. PIOLLKT, Col. PIOLLET, Mr. and Mrs- P. j POWELL, Mr. and Mrs. JAS. WOOD and 1 daughter MARY, Mr. and Mrs LEWIS KILMER, j Mr. and Mrs. WM. PATTERSON, and Mrs 11. JIOUTON, Mr. a ml, Mrs. W. M. OWEN, LOUIS, JOXN aud VICTOR PI , OLLKT. The refreshments, like the other appoint | ments, could not have been excelled. The bride received some handsome and val uable presents. j The bridal party took train 15 for New l York, where they will reside for the present. We vvsih them abundant happiness and a long and prosperous wedded life. The Mews Condensed. The profits of Sing Sing Prison for Feb ruary were $2,0:29. Rev. J. F. Revere Insurance Company of Bos ton, has decided to retire from business and has reinsured risks in lire insurance association of London. With the present movement of money to New York there are indications of Ja greater stringency in Boston. Banks are accomodating their customers at 5 and 6 per cent for time loans while call loaus are stiff at eight. The New York police are making efforts to suppress pool playing by boys. Seven teen liquor dealers, and thirty pool play ers arrested yesterday, were arraigned. The former were held for trial and the latter fined. Six thousand three hundred and forty eight persons died in New York since New Year's day. This mortality is un precedented. Were it continual in pro portion the deaths for the year would he 38,000 against 31,000 last year. The in crease is attributed to the severe season. The mortality thoughout the country is represented as unusally large. MARRIED. GORI—CULVER.—At the home of bride's parents in Wysox, March 1, 1881, by Rev. Charles F. Kelley, Philip C.
