A. M. C'OE, Esq., a gentleman well known to the older citizens of Towand, having re sided here many years ago, died at His home in Lock Haven last week. Deceased was a relative of Mrs. E. W. I f you enjoy 44 hunting yarns," just drop in at GLIDER'S shop. You will find almost any day one or more old hunters there recounting their exploits. Yesterday morning it was HENRY NOTIIRDP, and he was giving a thrilling diseript-ion of killing a large hear up Northrup hollow s6mo years ago. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. CORSKR, have been be reaved in the death of their buhv, a beautiful and promising hoy of ten months. The little fellow was attacked with the measles and scarlet fever, and although carefully tended, and nursed by loving parents, the angel of death claimed liitn. The child died yesterday morning and will be buried this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The nffiictcd family have the sincere condolence and warm sympathy of the entire community. A good housewife, who belongs to that un fortunate class who are compelled to live in rented houses and sutler the inconvenience of moving every year, had the good luck to find in her kitchen this year a "Good Morn ing" range, and after using it one week says she feels well compensated for all the labor and annoyance of changing houses—its such a satisfaction to have a stove always ready for use, and which bakes to perfection. M. (J. MKKCUU&CO., sell the " Good Morning," and we know we are conferring a favor upon the ladies by ealling attention to this best of all ranges, which is sold at a price t that brings it within the reach of all. The Long Valley Coal Company use MOODY'S California Tick. Personal. Mrs. L. li. RODGERS, will go to Philadelphia to-morrow for a short visit with friends. Mrs. C. P. HOWARD, of Wyalusing, is visiting friends in Elmira. Ex-Councilman SNKLL has been confined to his house with diphtheria. It was CALVIN WADHAMS, not M'adhens, of Wilkes-Barre, who was intended to be noticed in our personals yesterday, and we so wrote it, but a blundering typo made the change in the name. W. 11. KENTNER, station agent at Wyalu sing, has been chosen Superintendent of the M. E. Sunday school in that place. HORACE HOKTON, of Sheshequin, drives a magnitieant team of young horses. We opine lie is not compelled to take anybody's dust, when on the road. REV. J. S. BEERS and GEORGE 1). STROUD, returned from Wilkes-Barre, where they have been attending convocation, yesterday. The Rev. Mr. DOWNER, who has been holding meetings in the Baptist church this week, hears a striking resemblance to Hon. G. A. GROW. Several persons who have seen him on the street supposed him to be Mr. GROW. HOMER, the Elmira tailor must he doing a thriving business in this place judging from his frequent visits here, and tlie happy ex pression of his countenance. These who patronize lmn once arc quite likely to give him the second order. Wc understand that several parties who have been supported by the borough for sometime past now propose to 4v shift for themselves," rather than go 44 over tho hill to the poor house " We are informed that CHARLES B. WRIGHT, a Philadelphia capitalist, who formerly lived in this county, proposes to take tls> SIO,OOO poor house houds at 5 per cent., provided they are made to run ten years, and the inter est payable semi-annually. A correspondent of the Elmira Advertiser writing to that paper from Wyalusing, gives this item of political news: The politicians in this section are being convinced that Grant is the only man that can carry up—that, is, sutlieientlv to reach the White House. Among the staunch Grant men may he named G. M. Bixhv, Esq., of this place. II is dreadfully lonsesomo up-town since MCCAUK removed to Ids new store corner Bridge and Main streets. His establishment always attracted a large crowd of both buyers and sellers who would deal with no one else, and of course they follow him "wherever l.e goes." It is already a matter of remark that he has given an impetus to business in the loeality where lie now holds forth that augurs well for his neighbors in trade. They all say MCCABK pays out lots of money for butter, grain, produce, and many dollars from his safe go into the tills of the dealers in other commodities in the neighborhood. In the meantime his town customers have not been slow in following him, and it looks like a •' boom " all the time in his store. The following from an exchange cannot have, too wide a circulation : " There is not a more odious character in the world than that of a go between, by which we mean the crea ture who carries to the ears of his neighbor every injurious observations, t hat happens to drop front another. Such is the slanderer himself, lly his vilu otlieiousness, he makes that poison efl'eetivo, which else were inert; for three-fourths of the slander in (hit world would never injure their objects except by the masters of go-between who wear the mask of double friendship to act the part of traitor." The IJible is not silent on this sub ject. " Thou shalt not go up and down as a tale-bearer among thy people," was one of the commandments of Moses. Speaking of the same class of persons, St. I'aul says: "Thy learn to he idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tide-bearers also and busy-bodies, talking things which they ought not."
