There were 110 excuses or regrets; no necessity for "com pelling" any to come, i nd when "the door was shut." after the arrival of the guests, Mrs. M. found it necessary to lay about forty plates for her company. Mo subject sug gested under the head of "good of the Order," ever received so thorough and satisfactory dis cussion as did the bountiful supply of good tilings set before the members out his occasion. .After the supper had been disposed of eaine the "feast of reason and How of soul," in which the younger members of t lie Order par ticipated. The recitation of the "Fashionable Church," and the "Model Church," by LKSI.IK MILLS and DOHA IIOLLOX. were admirably executed, and attentively listened to. WILLIS and FHKD MILLS, and Mr. E. BADGKU also favored the company with recitations. J f the grange has accomplished no other good, it has been the means of begetting and fostering a refined social sentiment in North Towanda seldom experienced in rural dis tricts. SAM IIICRHY say the failure of the ice crop might have been foreseen, as instead of saving the best ice for seed, the dealers put it into market, and when the young crop came up, Instead of weeding it and keeping off the potato bugs, it was allowed to water-soak, and didn't grow well at all; then, when they ought to have covered it up from the sun at lioon, the v strolled off downtown trying to Collect their last season's hills, allowing the Ice to euro for itself, and it being young and tender it just evaporated, glorilled itself in rising vapor rather than freeze up sold in the heat; and they didn't use the best kind of thermometers either, nothing but old tin ar rangements with the bulbs all busted. The following appeared in yesterday's Elmira Advertiser, under date of Towanda, 3lareh 11: "At, the residence of the bride on Third street. Mr. Milton Hough was married to Mr. Margaret E. Smith, this afternoon at 3:30 t\ M. The marriage ceremony was per formed by Rev. I)r. Stewart., in the presence of a select company of invited guests. The presents were numerous and elegant. The luippy couple left town on No. 2. for a bridal trip. The best, wishes for their future happi ness and prosperity have been expressed bv the many warm friends of the newly wedded pair." ORI.O J.HAMLIN died in Sinethport,3K'Kean county Pa., on the 13t,h of February, 1Ss(), in the 77th year of his age. lie was well known to the early people of Bradforn county, hav ing read law in Towanda with SIMON KIN NEY, and admitted to the bar of that county in 182(5. From thence lie went to Smethport, where ho resided till the day of his death. He repiesented the county in the Pennsylvania legislature in 1832, and in 1838 was a member of the convi n ion to revise the constitution of the state. He made his mark in that body, and his able speech on county represcnta tation has been frequently quoted since, and at the convention of 1874 his views were in corporated into the constitution, lie resigned before the close of the convention on account of poor health, and 11 IRAM PAYNE, now of our village, was chosen to succeed him. He was a man of brilliant intellect, a fine literary scholar, and a profound lawyer. For the last thirty years he had been an invalid, and most of that time bedridden. The bar of 31c.Kean county paid him high honors on the occasion lof his death.— Waverly Advocate.
