The Cabinet will, to-morrow, consider the hoop-iron tariff question. The Bradford police are glad to get their pay at 15 per cent, discount. A paper at Jewell City, Kansas, hoists the name of J. D. Cameron for President. The Keystone Bolts Works Company, at Allegheny, are building another fact ory. The Union Planing Mill at Pittsburg has voluntarily increased the wages of its men. The locomotive works of Potter, Bell & Co., at Pittsburg, have an order for ten engines. The Crescent Tube Works, at Pitts burg, have started up on double time in ail departments. Charles K. Smith, late of the Albany Keening Journal, succeeds Hon E. Mi- Phersou as editor of the Press. Complaints of distress from famiue come from Eastern Rounielia and Ar menia. There is a strong antl-Tilden feciing among the Democrats of Allegheny county. The captain and second mate of the Arizona have been suspended for six months. A postal clerk has been arrcste'd for robbing the mails between New York and Boston. French ingenuity has devised a means for transporting large vessels over isthmuses. A general strike of coal-miners in tjie Clearfield regions has taken place,coupled with much lawlessness. The legislative bribery cases will open to-day. The first case called will be that of ex-Representative Salter. The Young Republicans of Massachu setts, in convention at Boston, passed resolutions favoring Hayes's re-nomina tion. The select committee of the House on the Inter-ocean Canal have reported favor ably a joint resolution in favor of the Monroe doctrine. The members of the House Committee on Pensions are indignant at the House for frittering away the time set down fcr the consideration of pensions. The Commissioner of Pensions reports that owing to the increased number of pensions there will be a deflt iency of over six millions and a half. Gen. Logan made the somewhat point ed remarks in the Senate the other day, that if he had been in command of the army of Virginia "there would be no Fitz John Porter knocking at the portals of Congress. A St. Louis despatch says: The city directory for this year will contain 122,- 000, names. In 1870 it contained 00,000, whet the population was <110,000; and this k taken to indicate that the popula tion of the city now is over 500,000. Mcßierson retired from the editorial management of the Press Saturday. It is intimated that his positiou on the Presi dential question is the cause of the retire ment. The manager of the Press will be fortunate if they secure the services of. another as an able editor. In the Maine House, on Saturday, the Committee on the Loss of the State Seal and Documents reported that P. A. Saw yer refused to obey their summons.
