A lamp had ex ploded in the bed room of Mr. and Mrs. Cramer in the Hollobaugh building on Bridge street. The smoke was so densa that it was with ifficulty tlat thev got out of the room. Citizens Samuel Meyers Daniel Harley and Emil Schott were among the first to hear the cry of fire and hastened to the place. Julius Jacoby raised the cry of fire in the distant parts of the town, and Mr. Meyers hastened to Patterson to arouse the re department which he did in the most approved manner. Meanwhile citizens by the aid of a ladder and water passed np in bucket? put out the tire, and by the time the tire en gine came upen the scene all danger had passed. The discovery of the re was timely, had it progressed only a short time longer all the force and skill of the fire department would have been required to confine it to the building in which it origi nated. One of the moat successful and pleasing parties of the season was given by the Misses Hambert at the home of Henry Hambert of Dela ware township in honor of their sis ters Mary and Ella and Mr Hofner of Danville, Pa. who were spending a a vacation at Mr. Hamberts. The party was well attended by the young folks of that vicinity and the vicinity of Swales, Pa , every invited guest being in attendance. The guests be gan to arrive at about 7.30 and from thee, till 8.30 the constant pleasant smile and corteous salutations of earn ing friends were received. After all had come such plays were engaged in as suited the occasion, and partic ipated in by all. Tbe party was also entertained with mnsie by Prof P. F. Loudenslager and Miss Jamison.
