Ephraiin Hanghawout attempted to compound and lxil a medicine that is said to cure ringlione on the leg or legs of a horse. The preparation was to be used on a horse owned hv jLvs. L.ycua (luyer, of East Salem, Delaware twp. To give the compound the requisite curative quality it must needs be boiled. In this case the boiling pro cess was undertaken at the house of the lady above mentioned. Before the medicine hail been brought to the necessary consistency it took fire. Hanghawout took hold of the vessel and threw it out of a door, and just at that instant Jliss Julia Devinney, a maiden sister of Mrs. Guycr, was near enough to receive a portion of the burning liquid on her uress, put ting all her clothing on fire. Haugh awout ran out and did his utmost to extin"niph the flames on the ladv's dress, threw her down and attempted to 6mother the flames by rolling her in the grass, but before the fire was outened her clothing was nearly all burned off her person, and her body most severely burned. Axd now the story comes from the congregation of the Twelfth Baptist Church in Phildclphia, and runs some thing like this : An old lady, a mem ber of the church, one night at a late hour, saw their preacher walking most tenderly with a young lady of the flock, where there was no occasion to walk. She told some other nember ol the congregation, and then it went from one to the other, until it reached the priacher's wife. That lady took the preacher's new love to task in chuicb, one day after the benediction had been pronounced. Such a scene ! Suffice it to say, that the case went into tbe in vestigation of a committee appointed by the church. The committee, as yef, have found nothing that is really bad against the couple that is, the preach et and tbe young lady. All good peo ple in Philadelphia hope they may not. Guees the old lady didn't have ber specks on, and mistook other people for ber pastor and sister in tbe church.
