Women’s soccer ranked 13th The Penn State women’s soccer team earned its first national ranking of the 2010 season as the Nittany Lions were pegged 13th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NSCAA) on Wednesday. No. ’3 Penn State will face four opponents ranked in the season top 25 this season. The Nittany Lions, who fin ished 22nd in the final 2009 NSCAA poll, are in search of their 13th straight Big Ten title and 16th straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010. Four Penn State oppo nents - No. 24 West Virginia, No. 17 Virginia, No. 5 Poland and No. 20 Wisconsin - are on the slate with two of those games coming at home. The summer of 2010 has come to an end as far as the Daily Collegian print edition is concerned. And it has been an amaz ing summer for sports fans. In June and July, the world was captivated by its greatest sporting event, the FIFA World Cup. But it wasn't just beautiful soccer that made this sum mer special. The year of the pitcher has taken baseball fans back to the times when hurlers domi nated the game and has set up another interesting race as we head to October. There are other moments to list, and not enought space to do it. But if this summer in sports has taught us one thing, it’s that the fall and spring should be even more exciting.
