—The Daily Collegian Friday. Oct. 30, 1987 Argentina professors on strike Professors at 23 of the 26 Argentinian state universities went back on strike two weeks after rejecting a new government proposal for salary increases, according to the Chronicle of Higher Educaion. The strike, which has lasted about two months, endangers the academic year for tens of thousands of students. The faculty have been seeking an emergency 50 percent increases and further increases over the next 12 months, the Chronicle reports. Students planned work-study fraud ELIZABETH, NJ (AP) Six Kean College students suspected in a scheme that bilked thousands of dollars from the school's work-study program will be prosecuted even though they cooperated in the investigation, authorities said. Tania M. Castano, 30, a former clerk-typist in Kean College's finan cial aid office pleaded guilty during the summer to masterminding the fraud, which involved padding student time sheets and splitting the extra pay with the students, said asistant prosecutor Michael J. Zido nik. The six students who helped in the investigation that led to the indictment of Castano in July will have evidence against them pre sented to a grand jury, Zidonik said Tuesday. Correction The Collegian yesterday incorrectly stated county commissioner candi date Jeffrey M. Bower's views on two issues. Bower supports funding for the homeless but said the county government can not provide all funding. The state must assist in funding. He also supports the farm referendum but said the proposed $lOO million funding is a "token amount" statewide. In 1982, vanilla ice cream with black cherries was named after John Almquist after he won an agriculture award, Palchak said. The second flavor, Keeney Beany, was named after Phil Keeney in 1985: it was chocolate ice cream with choc olate chunks and vanilla beans.
