Making his suspicions public to the police, they in turn begin to investigate him, believing him to be the other man, an alleged terrorist. Thus begins an obsession with his own past and the identity of the other "Mr. Klein," aggravated even more by the fear of "being" Jewish in 1942. Downtown "Hardcore" stars George C. Scott as a self• righteous zealot in search of his missing daughter, only to find "she has been used in a shocking and sordid way," according to its advertisement. Unfortunately, that distorts the fact that screenwriter Paul Schrader has the young woman caught up in the skin flick trade quite voluntarily after she runs away from home. From all reports, Scott's performance is fine as usual, but as a man who is never tempted by this decadence on display, his role seems oddly contrived. "Goodbye Again" is a sentimental but nonetheless interesting film due to the presence of Ingrid Bergman, Anthony Perkins and Yves Montand, in a story about a Paris Interior decorator who takes up with a younger man to hurt her former lover.
