They need the experience to know they really are that good:” —by Becky Andrews Connors hit a backhand into the net to end a long rally and give Borg a 3-1 lead. Connors, scoring three times with drop shots, swept the next game, but Borg hit two service winners to take a 4-2 lead. Borg broke Connors’ serve again in the seventh game, then sliced a backhand winner to win the first set. Borg came to the net in the fourth game to hit a forehand winner and also won the fifth game with a forehand at the net. In the second set, Connors went to the attack immediately. But Borg broke his serve in the first game when he smashed a backhand winner after Connors brought him to the net with a drop shot. Borg also broke Connors serve in the fifth game and after Connors broke Borg back in the sixth game, the Swede scored a service break on the last game of the match. Indoor soccer is virtually non-stop because the only out-of-bounds is the ceiling. If the ball hits a wall it is played from there and teams often use the wajl to an advantage. At one point this practice worked against Penn State. At the beginning of the second half, Beth Pastore dislocated her shoulder when she ran into the wall. The seriousness of the injury is not yet known. “Beth’s play in the semi-final round against Rutgers was largely responsbile for the win. Her loss affected us,” Penn State Coach Floyd Trunzo said.
