Come to the Cabaret." Were the subtle promise of this beckoning song as simple as it is charming, movies would be a useless art. It's a joyous refuge, or at least has the rumblings of one, but the world unlocked ' by Elsie with whom the singer "shared jour sordid rooms in Chelsea" is as ,sinister as it appears safe and as 4 paralyzed as it feels free. • With Christmas over and a new year to contemplate, we could all use a "Cabaret." The 1972 film, directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse, is quite 'simply a marvelous musical an un ' sentimental, all-absorbing story set in 'Nazi Germany. The star is simply Liza , Minnelli as Sally Bowles, a self 'destructive singer in a decadently delightful Berlin bar. Michael York plays her bisexual boyfriend with touching elegance. The film won eight ,Academy Awards, including best ac !tress for Minnelli, supporting actor for 7 Joel Grey, best director and musical : score. At 7 and 9:15 tonight and Sunday, ,112 Kern. "High Anxiety," directed by and starring Mel Brooks, is too slow and cumbersome at times, but it has some - great parodies of Hitchcock's "The 'Birds" and "Psycho."
