The Daily Collegian Tuesday, April 12, 1977- was our first tournament," she said, adding that the ten other schools competing in the tournament had all competed in at least two previous meets this season. "Four of our six players hit as well as anyone in the tourney with their drives and irons," the coach said. "But our short game hurt us, most importantly our putting." Thompson attributed her team's difficulties to the course's large, difficult greens. "When getting into shape, putting is the last area in which you regain your proficiency," she said. "We just putted too much." The Lady Lions finished with a score of 703 behind Kentucky, which had 643, Michigan State with 663, and Ohio State with 674. Myra Norsworthy of Kentucky was the individual winner with a two-day total of 154. Judi Mitchell had Penn State's lowest score with a 168. Renie Kelleher was next with a 172.
