—The Daily Collegian Friday, September 27, 1974 Nixon ill, may m LONG BEACH,CaIif. (UPI) Treatment for the blood clots in former President Richard Nixon's lung and legs must continue for an unspecified "number of days," almost cer tainly-extending well beyond the beginning of the Watergate coverup trial, it was disclosed yesterday. Dr. John Lungren, Nixon's personal physician, announced in a new medical bulletin that the former chief executive was "responding satisfactorily" to treatment with oral and in travenous anticonittlant drugs. Lungren did not say how long the treatment would require or when hospitalization might end. The trial of six former Presidential aides is scheduled to begin Tuesday in Washington and Nixon has been subpoenaed to appear as witness for both defense and prosecution. An administration source in Washington said Wednesday that Nixon was in a,"very irritable" mood because of what he considers a "begrudging attitude" in the government to deprive 'him of special privileges accorded other former Presidents. "He feels everyone is giving him a hard time," the source said. The former President got another jolt yesterday when a Senate subcommittee voted to deprive him of free maid and bulter service at San Clemente and cut by more than half a requested $1150,000 in federal funds to finance his return to private life. • • ••• • • • • • • • • • • Lemon Tree Coop Laundries Plenty of washers and dryers Single, double, tripille loaders Cleanestcoin-ops in town Attendant always on duty to assist you. t Convenient Hours: 7:30 a.m. till 11:30 p.m. 7 days a week FREE PARKING ALL 3 LOCATIONS Lemon Tree East Lemon Tree North 709 Bellaire Ave 2110 N. "Former President Nixon's latest complication, namely an embolus in the right lung, is responding satisfactorily to a combined therapy of oral and intravenous anticoagulant," it said. "Coumadin by mouth and heparin by continuous in travenous drip are being administered. This combined medication will be continued for a number of days. "Mrs. Nixon, who is a daily visitor at the bedside, is being assessed of her husband's condition at- frequent intervals." The hospital also said it had been authorized by Diane Sawyer, a secretary on Nixon's staff, to say that with ex ception for a jar of wheat germ from San Clemente, the for mer President was eating hospital food prepared by its own personnel. The former President was said to be "moved and pleased by the many well wishes he has received." However, the source in Washington said Nixon resented what he felt were efforts to limit his privileges as a former President simply because he resigned in the middle of his to re. as said to be particularly upset that Marine Corps aunies had only "grudgingly" given the recent armed. forces'Vommander-in-chief permission to use the golf course at Camp Pendelton, the marine base adjoining his home in San Clemente.
