Kennedy children given protection WASHINGTON iUPII A kidnap threat against "Kennedy blood" prompted the Secret Service to provide protection for six of the Late Robert F. Kennedy's children in Boston last week, it was reported yesterday A spokesman for the Treasury Department, of hich the Secret Service is a part, said the "temporary, limited" guarding of the children, along with their cousin. Rockefeller's fitness to be vice president yesterday, saying he represents "a dynasty of wealth and power," racism and '"the anti-life philosophy" of abortion on demand. Critics ranging across the political spectrum in terrupted the mostly smooth ride Rockefeller had enjoyed through three days of repartee with admiring senators at his confirmation hearings. S. Jesse Helms, R-N.C., black Communist Angela Davis, Notre Dame law professor Charles E. Rice and others challenged Rockefeller's credentials at the fourth day of confirmation hearings by the Senate Rules committee. After hearing,about a dozen public witnesses yestersay, Rules Committee Chairman Howard W. Cannon, D-Nev., recessed the hearings. He said they would not be reopeted, unless it was necessary to question Rockefeller again .after an Internal Revenue Service report on his finances is completed. The IRS, meanwhile, in formed the Rules Committee that its report' on call Rockefeller 'unfit for V.P.' Rockefeller's taxes would not be ready until the third week in October - a development which appeared likely to put off Senate action on. the confirmation until '_after election day. Cannon said he did not want to aci on the nomination until the financial investigations were complete. And Congress is scheduled to be in recess from Oct. 11 until after election day. House Democratic leaders both houses must act on a vice presidential nomination under terms of the 25th Amendment already have indicated they do not plan to take up the nomination until after the recess.
