The crippled and battered Lions, who face Pitt in an important grid battle Saturday in Pittsburgh, added four more names to the treatment list after yesterday’s practice. Fullbacks Ed Stuckrath and Dave McNaughton and tackles John Deibert and John Simko all required attention of some sort after drills in which the Lions sharpened .their offensive blocking. “We can’t even keep our boys from getting hurt in practices,” Rip Engle said after the work out in which the Nittanies stressed their running game. “It - BICYCLE - PARTS REPAIRS • ACCESSORIES Western Auto 112 S. This will mean that Engle will be forced to go with Sandy Buchan, Simko, Deibert, Joe Vierzbicki and Don Steinbacher at tackles. And of the group, not one has had a vast amount of varsity game experience. Simko arid Buchan were used sparingly last year, while Vierz bicki and Steinbacher are sopho mores. Deibert, who still is on the doubtful list, started playing regularly midway through the season after injuries depleted the corps. “You have to hand it to these boys,” Engle said pointing to his tackles. “They have stepped in there and have done a won derful job. I’m real proud of them.” Engle summed up his tackle situation in a joking manner when asked about it by a writer. “We had no tackles at the beginning of the season and now we have three less,” Engle'said. “But our boys have given every thing we’ve asked of them.” Meanwhile, the Panthers ap pear to be in top shape for the clash. Except for minor bumps and bruises the squad is physi cally fit according to the Pitt coaching staff. Lion assistant football coach Joe McMullen who scouted Pitt said the Panthers good fortune of not having a starter miss a game all season has been instru mental in their fine record. The Lion squad will not make the trip to East Lansing, Mich., for the Nationals be cause of an unofficial agree ment among athletic directors that only the first five teams and top 15 runners in the IC’s would participate in the NCAA event. Coach John Lucas said h'e was naturally quite disappoint ed that the team will be un able to go but the agreement is a fair one. “With the event getting big ger and bigger each year we need more restrictions,” Lucas said. “After all, it is the cham pionships and this is supposed to mean that the finest indi viduals and teams in the coun try participate.” Hi-way '"shoppe 111 Hiesler SI. "This will be a good incentive.” ' In other cross country news, the newly formed Nittany Lion Track and Field Club placed first in the Western Pennsyl vania Cross-County Champion ships held last Saturday at Grove City.
