November m. m 2 Chess Team Defeab Army 6-2 In Opening Competition of Season The chess team, in competition for the first time this term, beat the cadets of Army by a "score of 6-2 Sunday at West Point. The University squad, coached by_J)onald-Byrne, continued to dominate the cadets, having de feated them by a' score of 7-1 last year. Members of the University 'team who won on Sunday include: Richard Abrams (sth-liberal arts- Plyrtiouth Meeting) and Ronald Fischer (sth-business administra tion-Scarsdale, N.Y.)- who con quered their opponents in only 14 moves. Pre-Med Student Wins Score Guessing Contest David F. Harter (7th-premedl cal-Erie) was the winner of last week’s “Can You Guess When they’ll Score?" football contest. The contest, sponsored by the Retail Division of the State Col lege Chamber of Commerce, fea tures an all-expense paid trip- to the Penn State-Pitt game at Pitt Stadium Oh Nov. 24 as the prize. • The final contest will be based on Saturday’s Penn State-Holy Cross game. Originally known as Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, the trio or ganized f ive ( years ago when Lam bert. and Hendricks first recorded for Decca Records. Three years ago they teamed with! Annie Ross to cut their first album, “Sing a Song of Basie,” and went on to perform as a trio in night plub and jazz concerts. . They have been featured at the Blue'Note in Chicago, “The Hun gry i” in San Francisco, The Crescendo In Los Angeles and The Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas.
