SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7. 1961 Extra Tickets Gone For Artists' Series Tickets are sold out for the Dylan Thomas play "Under Milk Wood" which will open the University Artists' Series with performances at 3 and 8 When student demand for tick-1 ets persisted beyond the number available, it was decided to dis tribute some of the remaining general admission tickets to the students, Nina Brown, adminis trative assistant for • the Artists' Series, said yesterday. Miss Brown explained that "Un der Milk Wood" will interrupt its New York run at the off-Broad way theatre, The Circle in the Square, in order to come to the University. This production was acclaimed by many New York critics as being the one to come closest to the perfection of the Thomas work. Richard Watts Jr., of the New York Post said, "The late Welsh poet's beautiful lyric invocation of life, love and dreams in a sea coast village is hardly a theatre piece at all . Written originally. for the radio, it is essentially a dramatic recitation. Its basic ap peal is to the ear ... and is little concerned with Aristotle's tra ditional imitation of an action. The triumph of the Circle revival is that it makes evident the work's preoccupation with words but uses movement shrewdly to dra7matize the verbal emphasis." Howard Taubman, New York Times drama critic, said of the production, "Although it Cannot turn 'Under Milk Wood' into a proper drama, the Circle in the Square has been faithful to Thomas' green-leaved sermon' on the innocence of man." The Circle in the Square is an off-Broadway theatre which pro duces only contemporary drama. It was founded by Jose Quintero and Theodore Mann, the produc ers of "Under Milk Wood," more than :0 years ago. 30 p.m. today In Schwab.
