Hamilton Ave. Military Band Draws 5000 At 2 Concerts The Marine Band performed be fore approximately 5000 persons at two concerts in Recreation Hall Thursday. The band, conducted by Capt. Albert Scheopper, presented clas sical, modern, novelty, and mar tial selections. Arthur Lehman, a 1940 grad uate of the College of Engineer ing and Architecture, returned to his alma mater as soloist with the famed band. Praised by Critics Lehman. described by critics as "the best euphonium player since Simone Mantia," gave a rendition of "La Mandolinate," on the eu phonium. The matinee, designed mainly for a young audience. lasted for about an hour and a half. ' The more formal evening con cert was presented to an esti mated crowd of 3500 people. Olympic Fund Aided The concerts were sponsored by 'Sigma Chi fraternity. The pro ceeds will be used to help support the U.S. Olympic team at Melt bourne, Australia. Proceed re sults are not available yet. Members of the "Presidents' Own" Marine Band were . feted at a party after the evening con cert by the members of Sigma Chi fraternity.
