Jones ran what Werner called the best race of his career as he stayed with the first four through out the early stages of the race. However, he fell behind midway through the course—but managed to hold his ninth spot without any difficulty. , The meet was a good test qf, team strength for the Lions. Two of the harrier regulars were among the missing when the gun went off. Captain Don Woodrow was away on a geological field trip while sophomore Bob Thomp son was. sidelined with an attack of virus pneumonia. runners came in for a good bit of praise from Werner. He was greatly pleased with the way that they came through in spite of the odds which confronted them. - Werner also had some praise for the Navy club. He said they ran a very creditable race, espe cially Meukow who had none of his teammates to help him in his race with Moran. Kerr, and Schoenebeck. Navy coach Jim Gehrdes, a former Lion hurdling star, took the defeat in stride. He praised the Lion harriers for their fine showing and also said that his team ran a good race. - Gehrdes said before the race that the course would not make too much difference in the out come and confirmed this belief after the meet. He was not dis appointed with his team’s per formance. The Wernermen will now turn their eyes to powerful Michigan State. They meet the Spartans next Saturday before the football game with West Virginia. ÜBA Deadline Friday The Used Book Agency will re turn books and money from 3 to 5 p.m. tomorrow and Friday. Books and money not claimed by next week, .will be forfeited, according to Francis Tapestro, ÜBA manager. Ray Alberigi, Gilmore and Maurice Schleicher all contributed heav ily to the Lion victory. In fact, the whole Lion team was outstanding with sensational defense and offense dominating. Alberigi was the leading ground gainer for the Lions with 46 yards, Kane was second with 41. Clark led the Buckeyes with 87. The victory today was rem iniscent of the one three years ago when the Lions upset heav ily favored Illinois 14-12. At the end ’of the game many Lion fans swarmed the field and carried Engle and his staff on their shoulders. Mass chaos resulted and the Lion dressing room was in an up roar. Since Michigan defeated Army by such an overwhelming score, Ohio State fans figured the game would be of the same na ture—and that was their mis take. A calm group of Lion players ran on the field before kickoff time and when showed the papers of how highly underrated they were, they laughed and walked in the dressing room to put their pads on.
