PUGH ST. * * * '”" 'l Bill Straub Still On Injured List Soccermen to Ploy Sampson AF Today Penn State’s undefeated soccer team will play its second practice game of the season' at 3 p.m. today when it meets Sampson Air Force Base on the golf course. Lion Coach Ken Hosterman announced yesterday that his team wquld meet Sampson as a warm-up for the Lions’ fourth contest this fall against Colgate Saturday at home. George Lawther, son of John Lawther, assistant dean of the College of Physical Education and Athletics, arranged the contest with Penn State. The Sampson contest will give the youthful coach an opportun ity to polish his first team and still substitute freely. Although Hosterman has a strong first team his bench is weak —especially in the halfback and goalie positions. Line Bench Is Strong In addition to his first string forward wall, Hosterman has five line substitutes which could be called upon. But in the halfback slots, Hosterman has only one re placement in Jim Edmunds, a junior. And the fullback positions . are not much better as far as depth is concerned. In addition to first string choices Paul Dierks and Galen Robbins, Hosterman has only Bob Little, a senior, to han dle the defensive chores in the case of injury to Dierks or Rob bins. Lawrence Ineligible At the goal position, Hosterman has lost the valuable work of John Lawrence, a junior who is schol astically ineligible. Hosterman has been depending on George Geczy, a junior, to run the first team position. Sophomore Clarence Dittenhafer has been working on goal in practice ses sions; but never played in a var sity game at Penn State, and needs more experience before Hosterman can call on him. The. Lions are undefeated now, blit injuries to the halfbacks and fullbacks or to Geczy could prove to be costly if Hosterman’s bench can not, fill the gap.
