Stroup Lose Then the Lions' two veteran power men—Joe Webb and Gor don Stroup—lost their matches. Webb lost a heart-breaker to Jim Davidson who birdied the 19th hole to take the match one up. Stroup dropped his first match of the season to Jim Smith by a slim 2-1 margin. Boyanowski, playing his third collegiate 'match, pulled the Lions out of the 2-2 tie with a two-up victory over Jack Riley. • But the Lions' attack fell off as newcomers Gerry Gerhart and Jim Ginsberg dropped their mat ches. Gerhart was defeated four and three by Al Shuttleworth, while his classmate Ginsberg was edged one up. Stroup, although he lost, was the Lions' medalist over the dif ficult Colgate course with a '7l. The Maroon's Smith shot the best card of the afternoon with a 69 on the par 68 course. Record for the Colgate course is 65. Toughest Match—Rutherford After the match, Coach Bob Rutherford said, 'This was our toughest match since the last time we played Colgate at home—when it defeated us." With their 12-match win streak broken and a current season card of 3-1 with victories over Navy, Gettysburg, and - Bucknell, the Lions left for Ithaca, N.Y. last night ,to meet Cornell's Big Red links squad this afternoon. After the two-match road trip 'this weekend, the Lions will visit tht ',Temple University course in Philadelphia Tuesday. Lehigh will meet the Lions on the local course Saturday. Penn State closes its 1954 golf campaign at Pittsburgh May 26. Five Wins Posted In IM Soccer Ploy Five victories were recorded in intramural soccer games played Thursday night. Three of the five were won by forfeit. In the first game, Beta Sigma Rho took Phi Kappa Psi by a for feit. Alpha Chi Sigma walloped Alpha Epsilon Pi in • the next game, 3-0. Jim Patterson, Jack Bash, and Donald Kempfer scored the goals. In the - third game Alpha Sigma Phi and Chi Phi both lost by for feits. The World Champions swept to their ninth victory in 11 games by raking Gromek for a dozen hits—five of them for extra bases —in six inning's. Bob Grim replaced starter Har ry Byrd in the fifth inning but needed- assistance in the ninth when the Tigers scored their fourth run. Johnny Sain was call ed in from the bullpen. and after filling the bases with a walk, he choked off. the Tiger threat by re tiring Harvey Kuenn on a fly to center.
