PAGE TWO One of These Wilt WSsmrk,-..'* Joueiie Eifert Four Military Honor Societies Crash Causes $llOO Damages An estimated $llOO in damages reported when a car driven by Paul Jackson, technician in the Physics department, and a car driven by Alvin Friedman, first semester business administration major, collided on Pollock road at 5:30 p.m. yesterday. No one was injured. The sedan driven by Friedman received an estimated $BOO jn damages and the car driven by Jackson received damages amount ing to an estimated $3OO. The entire left side of the car driven by Friedman and the center post and fenders of Jack son’s car were smashed in the ac cident. After the cars collided, Friedman’s car hit a tree on the south side of the street. Jerome Etter, first semester arts and letters major, was a pas senger with Friedman. Jackson was alone in his car. Membership Reports Sent to Fraternities Membership reports have been mailed to fraternities, O. Edward Pollock, assistant to the dean of men in charge of fraternity af fairs, has announced. . The reports request fraternities to list the names of officers, pledges, members living in the house, and other members en rolled at the University. PENNSYLVANIA By ANN LEH While coeds are busy worrying about gowns to wear to the an nual Military Ball tomorrow night in Recreation Hall, members of the four military honor societies on campus, co-sponsors of the dance, have their ■ problems, too. All behind the scenes prepara tions for the ball are in their hands, and Friday night, while the dance is in progress, Scab bard and Blade, Quarterdeck So ciety, Pershing Rifles, and Arnold Air Society members will be working as ushers and as mem bers of the honor guard for the queen. Pledges of Pershing Rifles will be operating the checkroom. The first military society ap peared on campus in 1903 when a chapter of Scabbard and Blade was founded. Today Scabbard and Blade is composed of 50—men, with members chosen each se mester from advanced ROTC stu dents. Founded at Wisconsin Scabbard and Blade was found ed late in the 19th century at the University of Wisconsin. At the University, Scabbard and Blade takes part in special Memorial and Armistice Day pro grams. Pershing Rifles, the only other military society embracing all three services was founded on campus in 1932. The Honor Society of Pershing Rifles, as it is officially known, was founded in 1894 at the Uni versity of'Nebraska by Lt. John J. Pershing. It was first known as Varsity Rifles, with the new name being adopted when its founder came into prominence. In Drill Competition Each spring the Pershing Rifles Drill team takes part in intra regimental drill competition, hav ing copped the standard drill title in 1951. Quarterdeck Society is a local organization open to Navy ROTC midshipmen with a 1 All-Uni versity average and a 3.0 (75 per cent) naval aptitude rating. Nancy Lee Garber LaVie Seeks Campus Shots Students who have snapshots of any phase of campus life may submit them to the 1954 LaVie for use in the Campus Life sec tion of the yearbook, Herman Golomb, editor, has announced. These pictures can be shots of anything, anyone, or any place on campus or in State College, he said. Pictures will become prop erty of LaVie, and none can be returned.
