MI Council Okays New Seating Plan The Recreation Hall seating plan now before All-College Cabinet was approved Tuesday by th e Mineral Industries Student Coun cil. The plan calls for an exchange of sporting event tickets two days before an event. The seats not taken by students would go to townspeople and .alumni. Frederick Becher was elected president of the student council at the meeting. Richard Taglang is the new vice president and Lewis Wade the secretary-treas urer. SU Excavation Nears Finish Excavation work on the Stu dent Union Building is about 75 per cent complete, and work on pouring concrete footers - is in pro gress, according to Walter H. Wie gand, director, department of the physical plant. Excavation work for the addi tion to the Nittany Lion Inn is now - nearing completion, and some of the footers on the pro ject have been poured. Renova tion work to the interior of the present building is about half completed. Wiegand also explained that a solid rock foundation at the south side of the site has slowed down excavation work on the Student Union project. Council Vetoes New Seat Plan The School of Physical Educa tion and Athletics Council has vetoed the new Recreation Hall seating plan now before All-Col lege Cabinet. Perpetuation of the Paul E. Smith Memorial Trophy by the council was approved. This trophy is awarded annually to the out standing male senior enrolled in the School of Physical Education, on the basis of scholarship, extra curricular activities, and excel lence of character. Alice Colbert, junior represen tative, was named chairman of the elections committee by Mar garet Lamaster, council president. Others named to this committee are Carol Cowalles, Nedalyn Charmbury, and Dean Mullen. re z/ :n; / / • " Chorus to Give Mozart Opera "Bastien and Bastienne," a one act opera by W. A. Mozart, will be featured in the annual spring concert presented by the P en n State Women's Chorus at 3 p.m. Sunday in Schwab Auditorium. Directing the chorus will be Herbert W. Beattie, assistant pro fessor of music. Beattie will also appear in the role of Colas in the concert version of the opera. Bar bara Smith will sing. the role of Bastien and Frances Miller, Bas tienne. A string orchestra and pi ano will provide accompaniment for the operatic performance, In addition to the opera, the program will include selections by composers Weelkes, Gibbons, Ba con, and LeJeune. Jackson of the School of Agriculture said last week. A bill appropriating $1 mil lion for the establishment of a vet school at the College was introduced to the state legisla ture earliei this week. Jackson has pointed out that between $6 and $7 million would be needed for a veterinary school. The joint state government committee of th e legislature has reported that the establish ment of another veterinary school at this time would be impractical.
