’Wednesday; September io, 1952 Hillel Building With Sabbath Sabbath Eve services will in augurate the opening of the new Penn State Hillel Foundation building at 224 S. Miles street, Rabbi Benjamin Kahn, director, has announced. The construction of an addi tibn to the building, as well as the remodeling of the house on the estate, at a cost of approxi mately $200,000, has been com pleted, and some furnishings and equipment have been installed. The formal dedication of the building, however, will be Nov. 8 and 9, Rabbi Kahn said. ■The building will house all ac tivities of B’nai B’rith. the Penn State unit of the national organ ization' devoted to cultural, reli gious, and counseling services among/Jewish students of Amer ican universities. : - ! The building contains a syna gogue and auditorium which can seat about 800 people, a student lounge, . classrooms, a _ library, music room, kitchen, offices, rec reation room, and an apartment for . the caretaker. The Sabbath Services at 8 p.m. I’riday will be the first of a series of events to take place at the foundation this weekend. A wel come mixer will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday for new and old stu dents. An informal record concert will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday and a- film program will be held at 7:15 p.m. Sunday. ' Funds for construction of the building came from B’nai B’rith lodges throughout Pennsylvania. Furnishings were provided by the women of the organization. - A Building Fund corporation has been formed with Albert M. Cohen as president. ; \The foundation was founded in State College in 1935 with about 300 Jewish students enrolled at the College. Now there are more than 1000 Jewish students on the Penn -State campus. Rabbi Kahn came to State College to direct the foundation in 1940.- " The former-Hillel building, lo cated at 133 W. Beaver avenue, is now occupied by the First Church of Christ, Scientist, of "State College. The new building is located at 224 South Miles street. Romance on Highway Curbed by State Laws An interesting bit of information for romantically inclined college students is that it is illegal to. park on the highway of any state except Georgia, Maryland, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. There are interesting differences in the motor vehicle laws of other states, too. For instance, you may drive a car at the age of 14 in New Mexico, drive as fast as “reasonable and proper” in Michigan, and meed not report an accident in Ohio. . Twenty states have higher gas oline taxes than Pennsylvania’s 5 cents. Louisiana has the highest tax—9 cents a gallon. Missouri’s 2-cent tax is the lowest. Twenty-two states have higher maximum speed limits than Penn sylvania, 11 have no speed limit, and three have lower speed lim its. Hand signals are required in all states, all have highway pa trols, and all permit spotlights. The District of Columbia has the lowest speed limit, 25mph. Top speed in Massachusetts is 40 mph. Headlights need not be dimmed when approaching another car in Alabama or New Hampshire, but they must be in every other state. All rushees must have a LO All- College average. Procedure is set up by Panhel lenic Council, the governing body of the sororities Open Houses, during which rushees may visit all the sororities they wish, will be held from 1:15 to 5:15 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. An invitation to a party means that the. sorority from which the invitation came will also be at home to the rushees for coke dates any time from 1 to-5 p.m. on the days that parties are being held. Regular school clothes will be worn to these coke dates. Formal Coffee Hours will be held Sept. 26 at an hour to be announced later by Panhel Coun cil. Preferential cards may be filled out Sept. 26 after the Coffee Hours if the rushee feels that she has made her choice. Otherwise, the rushee may fill out the prefer ential bids on Sept. 27 from 8 to 12 a.m. in 105 Old Main.
