WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22. 1948 Health Service Maintains Facilities For Student Welfare Organized In 1915, the College health service promotes health ful living and treats ill and in jured undergraduates. The Dispensary is the outpa tient department, with office hours from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1:30 to 5 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters. These hours are maintained Mondays through Fridays, with hours from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays. Other Hours Listed On Sundays and holidays all patients will be cared for in the outpatieht department of the College hospital, with 10 to, 11 a.m. being set aside for outpa tient treatment in the hospital for non - emergency conditions. The dispensary is located in 3 Old Main. The Infirmary is the inpatient (hospital) department. With the exception of the regular College vacation periods, the hospital is open twenty-four hours of the day and has a staff physician in attendance. The College hospital is located on the north side of Pollock Road, intersecting Short lidge Road on East Gampus. Certain Treatments Are Free Each patient is entitled to cer tain routine medications and sur gical dressings free of charge. Other unusual drugs and hypo dermic injections will be charged Cabinet Head Hello Sophomores: On behalf of the student body I want to welcome you to Penn State. By the time you read this message you should be well on the way to feeling like a rfeal Penn Stater. One of the last things you will become acquainted with in the usual run of events is Student Government. Since this is your student government, I feel that I should explain it to you at this early date. * Student government, headed by All-College Cabinet needs the direct or indirect support of every student. All of you who are interested in working actively in student government should start to get into the swing of things now. By the time you be come seniors you will be well prepared to do the best job pos sible for the betterment of Penn State. Student government is for yfiu. When you help it, you’re helping yourself. Don’t think that student gov ernment is run just by the sen iors. It’s a cooperative job. Every class has a major hand in it. By orienting yourself now, and organizing your class well, you will be better able to take your place in the scheme of student government. In the early part of November you will have an election of class officers. That will be the time to make the Sophomore class a class to remember. Every one of you should get to the polls and THE DAILY COLLEGIAN, STATE COLLEGE, PENNSYLVANIA to the patient at a figure less than he could obtain on the open market. Each patient is entitled to seven days free treatment in the Col lege infirmary each semester. Upon the expiration of the free hospitalization, he is charged three dollars per day for any ad ditional number of days required in any given semester. Expenses for consultations with physicians not on the staff must be assumed by the student. The semester health fee does not include calls or treatment in students’ rooms made by mem bers of the health service staff. It is best to move the ill patient at once rather than wait for a physician to make a call in the patient’s auarters. Includes X-ray Expenses The semester health fee in cludes the expense of one X-ray examination if ordered by a member of the medical staff. Ad ditional X-rays are taken as needed at a cost of two dollars per plate. The laboratory facilities of the health service are included in all examinations ordered' by the medical staff in the semester medical fee. Visiting hours at the infirmary shall be between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. reets Sophs vote. Let's make this a 100 per cent vote and show that the Class of ’5l is 100 percent interested. The student officers will be glad to answer your questions at any time on anything pertaining to student government. Tribunal Holds Discipline Powers Student Tribunal, a committee of All-College Cabinet, is the stu dent organization with investiga tion and judicial power over the disciplinary problems of men students. In previous years Tribunal was orimarily interested in establish ing and enforcing freshman cus toms. With no freshmen on the central campus the main consid eration is now the handling of traffic violations on campus. Students are not permitted to drive on the central campus from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Student dri vers may park only in the West narking area and are prohibited from parking on Burrowes, Short lidge and Pollack roads, and in Forum Offers Top Speakers An opportunity to see and hear some of the outstanding political and cultural leaders of the country will be given to the Col lege students in a few weeks when the Community Forum be gins its fifth year of presenting programs to the students and townspeople. Sponsored by 19 groups in cluding the All-College Cabinet, the' American Legion and the Penn State Christian Association, the forum brings outstanding na tional figures to the College at the lowest possible admission charge to the students. Harold Brown is chairman of Tribunal this year and in the capacity of his office is also an ex-officio member of All-College Cabinet. Tribunal has as one ot its aims this’ year to serve not only as a corrective organization but as one which anticipates its problems and functions also as a preventive society, according to Brown. The Lion party was organized shortly before the last spring election, taking the place of the Nittany-Independent party which crumbled after last fall’s sopho more elections. STUDENTS!
