Most of you have actually been J Penn State students for a year and are merely transferring to the main campus. This is an un usual situation, but we know {from experience that those who , preceded you under this plan 'were able to make the transition successfully. At first there will be problems of adjustment to new ways of [iloing things, new living condi tions, new study requirements, [new recreational and social op- Iportunities. This is a large and /complex institution and these are (days jpf expansion, crowded con dition?, and needs far beyond our [ability to meet perfectly. Never theless, iXre believe you will find pat conditions here compare favorably with most institutions and we-know you will be able to get a good education if you do your part. William Lawless, All - College President and chairman of the program committee, has arranged for speakers on student govern ment, Interfraternity and Pan- Hellenic Councils, sports, publi cations and hat societies, all inter spersed with entertainment. Lawless, himself, will discuss student government; George Chapman, IF C president, will speak about fraternities; and so rorities will be treated by Adel aide -Finkelston, Pan-Hel presi dent. Joseph Colone. football captain and _ Men’s Athletic Association president, will talk about sports; publications will be presented by Lewis Stone, Collegian editor; and the nature, functions and pur poses of campus honor societies will be explained by William Bon sall, president of Hat Societies Council. Entertainment between the five minute talks will be provided by Henry Glass, campus comic who lias appeared in many Thespians ,nd Players productions. In case of rain, the gathering will be held i n Schwab Auditorium. Lasting from 8:15 to 1'0:30 p.m., the mixer will feature Thespian skits directed by J. Ewing “Sock” Kennedy, and the College cheer leaders. Huff Hall’s orchestra will play for round dancing on the Old Main porches. On the fourth floor of the building Chauncey’s Lang’s band will lead square dancing. Table games will be set up in 304 Old Main, the office of the CA, where students may also participate in group singing. O'*** • +— WISTATI9 President's Talk Opens Program A welcome talk by James Mil holland, acting president, and viewing the movie “Your College” at a mass assembly in Recreation Hall Sunday night opened Orien tation Week and life on the Penn State campus for more than 2700 sophomores and other new stu dents. A week crowded with schedul ing and counseling sessions; schol astic, aptitude and psychological tests; health exams; mixers; in formational programs; and regis tration follows for the new stu dents. Day-by-day schedules, distri buted at the Sunday meeting, are to be followed strictly by each student, according to Arthur R. Warnock, Dean of Men and chair fan of the Orientation Week com mittee. More than 100 upper cl ass stu dent leaders are participating in the orientation program as coun selors. Under their guidance the newcomers will receive their first introduction to the Penn State campus.
