FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1947 Education Honorary Holds Celebration For Founders' Day Alpha Kappa chapter of Pi Lambda Theta, national educa tional honorary, will hold it's first Founders' Day Banquet at the Westminster Foundation 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, according to Mary Frances Gregory, pub licity chairman. Dr. Nell Murphy will deliver the main address. Her subject will be "They do it better at Alpha Kappa. ' Dorothy Harpster will speak on the early and recent history of the local chapter, and Mrs. Mary Ann Gree Jackson will tell of the 1947-48 program. Mrs. Willa Tay lor will direct the singing, and Mary Louise Hefty will sing a solo. Many alumni guests are ex pected to return to the College to take part in the celebration ac tivities. Mrs. Sara Belle Reese Moyer, first president of the Alpha Kappa chapter, will extend greetings to the members. Mrs. Ann Fagan Grau, one of the charter members who helped to make the local chapter a branch of the national organiza tion, is also expected to attend. All members are urged to re turn banquet questionnaires as soon as possible. Skirts Snafu . Lannon Thomas J. Lannen, AU-College President, commenting on the "new look" said, "The situation on campus is definitely SNAFU —Skirts Now All Fouled Up. I think the new long skirt styles not only detract from the beauty of the College, but they also take the joy out of living for every red-blooded Penn State man." Sutherland Talks To Belles Leffres Dr. Bruce Sutherland, professor of English literature at the Col lege, will address the second meeting of the Belles Lettres, English literary club, in the northeast lounge of Atherton hall at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Topic of Dr. Sutherland's talk will be "The Sentimental Bloke." The Sentimental Bloke is a char acter created by C. J. Dennis, well-known newspaper column ist who specializes in writing Australian dialect. The speaker will read selections from Dennis' poetry and explain its local color. Dr. Sutherland is a native of Philadelphia, and graduated from Dartmouth university. He re ceived his doctorate at the Uni versity of Pennsylvania, after ward serving in the library at Princeton university prior to coming to the College in 1935. He currently teaches a course in literature of British colonial possessions, featuring Australian dialect. This course, first intro duced in 1941, is the only one of its kind given in the United States. DArLI COLLEGIAN, STATE COLLEGE, PENNSYLVANIA New Dorms Offer More Time On Campus to Future Coeds "The new dormitories, when completed, will accommodate ON coeds and will enable them to spend most of their college life on cam pus," Mrs. Cordelia Hibbs, new member of the Dean of Women's of fice in charge of housing, said today. Eight sororities will be housed in each of the two new living units. All sorority houses will be vacated• and those girls moved into dormitory suites, she said. At present there are approxi mately 175 women In town dor mitories. These girls, Mrs. Hibbs stated, will probably be assigned to campus dormitories at the end of their first year here at the College• The 1200 girls in the living units "have been very coopera tive in the selection of their rooms and roommates," she con cluded. Mrs. Hibbs came to the College last July from Uniontown where she had been in business. She is the widow of Dr. Samuel E. Hib b s, former physician in Uniontown. litleicling..4 Milholland—Yahres The wedding of Miss Mary Burk Yahres to James Milholland Jr. '47. will take place tomorrow at the home of the bride's grand mother. Mrs. John E. Hauden shield, in PittSburgh. Miss Yahres was a home eco nomics student at the College and a member of Chi Omega. Mr. Mil holland was graduated in June in Arts and Letters and is now em ployed by the New Holland Ma chine Tool Co. in the middle west. While at the College. he was a member' of Beta Theta Pi and ac tive in Thespians. Mr. Milholland is the son of James C. Milholland.
