Note:.—This is the second_ in a series of features on the little mdn on campus, better known as LMOC's. We just thought you'd like to know them.) How much does the rabbit in the A store window weigh?• Well, your guess is as good as anyone's, since the only currently well known rabbit • (Peter is fast be coming obsolete) is Harvey who, being well over six feet, must weigh at. least 190 pounds—of ozone, that is. The presiding genius respon sible for this newly acquired rab bit-consciousness (new word) is Mike Horen. Mike, the publicity chairman for ISC's .Bunny Hop, has a lot of other ideas up his sleeve. ' "We, have found lots of ways to push the dance," Mike says. "We 'put up those awful, little yellow signs all' over the place. Got 'em on all the revolving doors, in town. And we made sure that the fellows get dates for it, too. We just passed out circulars at the dance last weekend and in all the eating places oft Wednes day- and. Saturday •nights, when everyone was in couples, and then we left the rest up to the 'girl's: It worked." Mike,' a secondsemester fresh man, is full of little constructive ideas like that, and seems to be putting them to work. He is, of course, a Member of ISC, presi dent of. Penn State Club s and at clarinet-player in the Blue Band —in short, a very active guy. He is full to 'overflowing with State spirit, and has the energy' and "go" to make it show in the right places.- The Wanderer . Born here in the states, Mike has spent most of his life wander ing around the globe.. His at present; is living in Argentina. SCHWAB AUDITORIUM The Pennsylvania State College Artists' Course MIKE HOREN ture to him. The Horens were evacuated by the British army M Barcelona and 'from there to Marsailles by destroyer, where bhey were picked- up by the American battleship Rex. Quite an adventure for an eight-year old kid! • Mike spent all his. high school days. in the Argentine. He went to the American high school in Buenos Aires, where he claims that the students were more American than the Americans themselves. "We• are all very interested in doing •things the American, modern way down there. Everything is done by th'e newest, most up-toLdate methods. Buenos Aires itself is slick; 'wide and open, good. roads, buildings that catch the sun-every hour it shines, and fast modern subways. The Argentinians are already .FORDHAfI UNIVERSITY! They're sharp, allright. Misses T-Bone Steaks "What I miss most up here is the food. Geez! A t-bone steak that covers a whole plate and at least an inch thick. A wonderful dinner for fifty cents American. Boy, things are a lot cheaper there. You could buy the whole cow for $15." Mike also misses the pampas, and riding. He explains that 40 minutes out of the city, you can just get on a horse and ride for miles and miles. People are liter• ally raised on horses. Mike's older brother, Pete, goes to State, and so it was decided that Mike should come too. And Mike says that he, wouldn't be able to choose a better place. • "This school is swell. When I get out of the army (I'll be 18 in October) I'm going to come back with a bang. The people here are so crazy. :>>;» ;, .....;` iii': "Why, one of the entries we got Monday, even though they are.q't due until Wednesday, - was just whacky. The girls - must have ;been bitter because she , said that we should call off the contest ,since , the rabbit wouldn't live un- , til. Friday, cuz it was in the win dow of the A store. Nutty!" THE BROWSE The past few years have been lean. ones as far aS good bookS ' have been concerned. Publish, ers say it has been due to . the war. But it is our guess that good manuscripts were held until people began to read a bit more seriously. And to prove our point' we have same good books for the s erious reader. Jo Sinclair's WASTELAND (Harper's, $2.50) was awarded' Harper's $lO,OOO prize which is given every two years. In spite of the fact that it won a prize, it is a book . which Should be read by everyone—including, a few of our ranting Congress, men. (Did we say "ranting" or "Rankin?") . The Problems of our atomic age, might be solv-. ed a little easier if we used More horse sense and, our na tures were as unselfish and contained as much good will as Sayward's in Conrad Richter's THE FIELDS (Knopf, $2.50.) The 'book has the charm and the careful technique he gave to THE TREES . . . Our local book this week is Elizabeth Metzger Howard's BEFORE THE SUN GOES DOWN (Dou, bleday, $2.75.) Another prize, winner, Doubleday and . M. G. M. *for a grand total of $145,- 000. It's a good. yarn and worth reading if only to see Huntingdon and Altoona: •in print . . . Our nomination for one of the Fifty Best Books of the Year goes to Holt for the beautiful job on THE LOST LANDSCAPE by Winifred Welles—s3.oo. It's an • ideal Easter gift for mother or grandmother, or • for anyone who loves to hold the very stuff of the American past in their hands . . . If you like beautiful spring flowers on your Easter cards, we have them now. But you better come around soon, The College Book Store and Record Shop . 124 W. Beaver 'Open Every Evening PAGE THREE
