PAGE SLX Lions Meet Colgate; Face Navy Wednesday The Nittany Lion basketball team will tangle with the Colgate Red Raiders in Rec Hall, 8:30 p. ni., tomorrow follow ing the wrestling mate)), with Army. Coach John Lawther's men will also travel to Annapolis, Md., to face a strong Navy quintet Wednesday. Colgate is flooring a relat posed chiefly of military trans vice under varied systems and devoid of returning lettermen. R. D. Neher, six-feet-four-inches tan, will probably start at the pi vot position for Coach Karl Law rence. Neher played freshman basketball at the University of California before entering Colgate as a part of the Navy Refresher Unit. Speedy ball-handler E. J. Kelley and Hank Sisson, former Howard College athlete, are likely to start as guards while Jack Tormins, straight from high school, and Jack Hughes, a Muhlenberg trans fer, will probably hold down the forward positions. Capt. Ernie Litty and Adgie Back, guards, Dick Duden, center, and Mac McKay and Jack Carroll, forwards, all veterans, will prob ably comprise the Midshipman team averaging six feet in height. Duden and Nelson are the leading scorers on the squad. Navy beat Penn, 61-41, in its last game Wed nesday. Army Scores 21st Victory; Cagers Defeat State, 33-28 The United States Military Academy'qUintet recorded its 21st straight victory when the Cadets defeated a stubborn Penn State five, 33-28, at West Point Wednes day. "The Impatient Years" with Jean Arthur, Lee Bow man Lion Boxers Face Virginia Mitimen Penn State's boxing team will oppose an experienced Virginia squad in its second start of the season at Charlottesville, Va., to morrow. The Virginians were tied by a strong North Carolina Pre flight team in their only test. The Lions opened their schedule by losing to Army, 5-3, last Satur day. The Blue and White mittmen were victorious in three of their bouts. Capt. Paul Smith, Nick Ra nieri, and Larry Luhrs decisioned their opponents for State's only points. There will be two replacements in the starting lineup against Vir ginia, Coach Marty McAndrews announced today. Navy Trainee Bob Cramer will open instead of Hal Hein, who dislocated his shoulder in the 120-pound battle last week. Jack Seitchick has been replaced by Bob Briselli in the 155_pound class. The rest of the lineup will re main intact. Paul Smith will com pete in the lightweight division, while Ranieri and Luhrs handle the heavier weights. Houck Leaves College To Coach Servicemen Coach Leo Houck, veteran coach and fixture on the Lion staff, has left Penn State to serve as a civil ian consultant for a newly-created Army coaching clinic in Iceland and Greenland. He 'will conduct boxing classes for athletic officeis at . various stations throughout this war theatre. While no definite announcement has been forthcoming, it was in dicated that the party might move to Bermuda from the North and conduct like classes there. Houck's leave is indefinite. Lots of Ice, but . . . No Varsity Hockey Art Davis, Penn State hockey coach, is convinced there is no justice. For the first time since the sport was inaugurated, the winter has been severe enough to freeze the ice on the outdoor rink. But there is no ice hockey team. The sport was eliminated as a wartime economy measure. Ex-State Track Star Runs in Inquirer Meet • Johnny Dibeler, former Penn State track luminary, will repre sent the New York Athletic Club in the 300 and 600-yard runs to morrow afternoon in the invita tional Philadelphia Inquirer AA meet at Franklin Field. The Middle Atlantic quarter mile champion is now a graduate student at the College. He will compete with George Guida and Jimmy Hebert, who hold the 250- yard and 000-yard run world rec ords respectively.
