Entered Saturday in the debate tournament at the Shippensburg State Teachers College are the men's and women's debate squads. Next week, two debaters will entrain fOr New York to partici pate in contests with Columbia and Washington Square College, a division of New York Univergity. The two students, Zelmar Bar son and Louis Ullman,. will match their abilities with two Columbia University delegates. The contest, to be broadcast over radio station WNYC, will show Penn State holding down the negative. The question is: "Resolved, That the American Party System, as in use today, be abolished." Two days later, this men's squad will engage Washington Square College on the year's national de bate question, "Resolved, That the United States should cooperate in establishing and maintaining an international police force upon defeat of the Axis." Penn State will defend the affirmative view point. That evening the men's debate team will encounter the Columbia squad, this time on the subject, `Tesolved, That the voting age be lowered to eighteen years." Pre-medical students will be de ferred on precisely the same terms except that in their case it must be further certified that they have been accepted at a medical school. Regulations now in effect, namely, that students must be within 24 months of graduation and in good scholastic standing when certified for deferment, re main unchanged. Graduates of the above mention ed specialized fields are also eligi ble for a further 30-day period of 'deferment after graduation in order to become established in a job in a war industry. Unlike the first two weeks of contests, this past weekend's games found the teams very ev only matched. The highest scor ing contest was between Bks 7 and 19 which ended in favor of the Bks 7 quintet 17-8. In the contests between Bks 44 and 42, and 46 and 49, only one point was the difference between victory and defeat. In the former tilt Bks 42 eked out a 16-15 verdict, and in the .11 - Ater affair Bks. 46 defeated 49 14-13. The Bks 25 five won ovet 23 by a 12-8 score. In the remain-. ing contests, Bks 40 and 17 won by forfeit from 48 and 8 respec tively. Five teams are tied for first place in the league, each having won two games and losing .none. The bks 12, 28, 46, 42, and 17 temporarily hold this distinction. Bits 7 has won two and lost one. Zeta Tau Alpha Pledges After the pledging of new Zeta Tau Alpha members, a, party was held in their honor by Elsie Kresge, alumnus, in Atherton Hall Tuesday evening. The sorority will entertain the new class of ensigns in the lounge of Atherton Hall to morrow evening. DUX CLUB THE COLLEGIAN Fencing Off (Continued-from, Page Three) Penn State's first fencing team. Since 1934, the teams have won 26 meets and come out on the short end a 20 encounters. The 1935 squad went through an un defeated season, while the 1939 team recorded no losses and one tie in a quadrangle meet. Postponement of this year's meets - does not necessarily mean for the duration. Candidates will be called -next year, and by that time it is hoped that equipment will be obtainable. The Premedical Society will have as guest'speaker‘at its meet ing in 110 Home Economics at 7:30 p.m. next Wednesday Dr. Anna 0.
