Moyer gave a lecture on “Recent Developments in Steam Turbine Engineering" before a joint meeting of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Buf falo Engineering Society on January 7. The equipment of the depart ment of mechanical engineering has recently been increased by the addition of a three horse-power F'rost King gasoline engine made by the John Lauson Manufacturing company of New Holstein, Wis.; a four horse-power gasoline engine made by the Gray Motor company of Detroit; a six horse-power port able kerosene engine made by the International Harvester company of Chicago; a three horse-power crude oil engine made by the St. Marys Machine company of St. Marys, 0.; and two detachable row boat engines made by the Evinrude Motor company of Milwaukee. One of these engines is made in sections for class room demonstra tion and the other has been furnish ed with the understanding that it may be used by students and in structors. Prof. Hugo Diemer delivered a lecture illustrated by lantern slides on “Some F’eatures of Scientific Management” before the Erie Ex tension class in that subj'ect on Jan uary 8. This lecture was attended by several factory manageis and other officials in addition to the regular members of the class. A recent edition of the Allentown Morning Call contained a letter signed “A Satisfied Student”, from a man who is registered in some of the classes of the division of engi neering extension at Allentown. This man had been formerly regis tered in classes at the Franklin In stitute in Boston and in night schools in othei cities. He states that the spirit shown and the op portunities offered by the classes in Allentown are “ahead of all others” and urges young men who can to THE PENN STATE COLLEGIAN and shoes take advantag • of them. There are at present about 120 enrolled in this school. C. E. Faber, 1910 E. E., until re cently in the engineering depart ment of the Northern Electric com pany, of Montreal, was in State College, January 14. L. F. Wood, 1913, E. E„ with the Western Electric company, of New York City, spent part of the past week at the college. C. R. Kemp, of the switch board department of the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing com pany, of Philadelphia, gave an illustrated lecture on “Switch Board Installation and Design” before the senior electrical and mechanical en gineers on January 13. Two Year Men vs Shorthorns On Tuesday evening the two year ag. basket ball team defeated the shorthorn team on the Armory floor by the close score of 24-23.
