Probably no recent rule has caused so much discussion as that o£ the Freshman Advisors’ printed last week. In order to give a more complete understanding the ruling is printed in full with an explana tion of its purpose and administra tion. Those students on probation shall not participate in athletics or other student activities so long as the probation lasts. Those students having a defi ciency from the first semester shall not participate in athletics or other student activities until that deficiency is removed. Those students below grade in work aggregating more then three credit hours shall not participate in athletics or other student activi ties until the deficiency in college work shall be brought within the limit of the three credit hours. The purpose of this rule is (a) to protect the college from - the crit cism of parents that their sons are premitted to waste time in extra scholastic pursuits, (b) to compel students to put enough time on their studies, (c) to furnisn an in centive to students for a higher grade of scholastic work. In view of these purposes the ad visors will use their judgment in applying the rule. For example, first months grades in some sub jects are not final by some schools and will not eliminate a student from extra-class activities. Or again, where men are merely practising in view to entering public per formances and the stopage of that practice would result only in plac ing the men back in the gymnasium or military drill for several hours a week, they will not be prohibited from continuing their practice. Ac cording to the rule, a student will be permitted to re-enter extra-class activities as soon as he can bring evidence from his instructors that he is above grade. The foregoing examples are merely suggestive and each case will be dealt with on its merits with the intention of the rule in mind. Gymnastic Tournament. The annual boxing gymnastic tournaments will be held in the Armory Saturday, night March 28. This is the first gymnastic tourna ment to be at. Penn State and should prove quite interesting. It will consist of competitive work on the paralell bars, horizontal bars, swinging rings, vaulting bar, horse and mat. All entries should be handed in at "Doc’' Lewis office by Wednes day night, March 25.. The engineers of the university of Nebraska have nearly completed a giant telescope. The barrel of this sky gun is 20 feet long, with 12 lenses, and has' nearly 1200 differ ent parts. are You Choosing"? Sixty head of West Virginia cattle have been fed this year. These have been divided into five lots and fed different rations. Some interesting results are being obtained that should be of immense value to Pennsylvania feeders. The results will be presented at this meeting. It will also afford an op portunity to see the cattle and note their condition before they are sold. A competent com mission man from Pittsburg stock yards has been secured to value the cattle in the day of the conven tion. A program has been arrang ed at which the different phases of cattle feeding and marketing will be discussed. This meeting should be of particular interest'to cattle feeders in Pennsylvania as it is in direct line with one of their live stock problems.
