CROSS COUNTRY H. W. Foulds, 'l3 with Three Min ute Handicap Captures First Place. Best Cross Country Run Held Here. . The interest displayed in the cross country run on, Saturday after noon brought many out to witness this annual affair. Up to the finish the winners were hard, to rick owing to the way in which every man was hard pressed by those behind him. In spite of the deep snow that cov ered the ground excellent time was made for the 5.4 miles that con stituted the course. Out of twenty five men who started the race all finished in good time except four who dropped out along the road. Foulds, 'l3 took first place, cov ering the course in 38 minutes 35 seconds with a three minute handi cap. Lumm '1.3, one of the scratch men secured tenth place and at the same time captured the medal for running the distance in the best time which was 35 minutes 30 seconds. He was followed closely by Fischer 'l3, who crossed the tape only ten seconds behind the winner . of the{ time prize. The Sophomores were the victors of the run, but the close nesss . of the race can only be judged by the order 'in which the men of the two under classes finished, the tenth place being necessary to de cide the winning class. Fifteen prizes including the time prize were awarded to the first four teen men who crosse ' the tape. The winners of the prizes finished in ,the' order named—Foulds 'l3, Booth '13,) Swisher 'l3, Shetrone 'l4, S'eybert 'l4, Fischer 'l3, Savery 'l4, - Leyden 'i4, Taylor, special, Lumm 'l3, Fussel 'l4, Morgan 'l3, Allisoa 'll, and Ashbrools 'l4. The, valuable awards that were giyen were donated by merchants of the town and much is due them for the success of the CIOS3 country r. GERM.4N PLAY A SUCCESS ""Der' Neffe als Onkel" Produced on Monday Night Schiller's three-act comedy "Der lieffe als Onkel" was rendered in excellent manner on Dec. 12, under the dire-tion of the Deutscher Verein. The capable and well balanced cast is to be most sincere ly congratulated, as are also the competent coaches, Miss Simmons, Mr, Boucke, and Mr. Scheib. The entire play, with its intricate plot, humorous disci°. ures, and delicate acting was given in a charming Way that completely delighted the au dience. The German of the players was good, and the acting was excel lent. The College Orchestra added particular zest to the setting by its usual good playing. Credit for the success of the pro duction can be ascribed to no par ticular star, but to a uniformly good cast with excellent team work. Miss Kessler upheld her reputation of former years, and did splendid work in the part of "Sophie." Miss Ancona as "Frau von Mir ville", and Miss Weiss, as "Frau V. Dorsigny" were also strong con tributing factors to the action of the play. Among the male characters particularly in evidence were Mr. Ohleen, as "Franz", Mr. Shiyock, as "Der Oberst", Mr. Cronemeyer, as "Champagne", Mr. Dose, as "Lor meuil", Mr. Amschler, as "Valcour" and Mr. Blouch, as the "Postilion" All the other member s, however, fulfilled in excellent fashion their several parts, and pi oduced a large part of the final result. Although the audience was not as large as could be desned, it was an enthusiastic and appreciative one Yet it seems peculiar that among our large numbers, so small a pro portion are interested in the Ger.nan language ani literature. ' Monday e ,ening's play was surely admirable from all standpoints, and showered credit upon the. partici pants. Future work of a similar nature has received added imps tus thru its worth and its double pur pose has therefore been gained.
