Gray a Guard on the Third Team in the All--Star Football Eleven Chosen From Eastern Colleges by the Philadelphia Public Ledger. "In rounding out a theoretical line, a line that would be capable of arranging itself in four distinct. de fensive formations, to meet various attacks, while fully able to present a powerful and versatile protectiOn for an attack, the writer has selected Kilpatrick of Yale, and Piollet of State, as ends. What these two wing men do not know and cannot do, in playing the extreme positions of the line, is useless for other players to attempt. These two men are built on different lines. The State star is a counterpart of Hinkey, Yale, Campbell and Bow ditch, Harvard, tall, rangy, fast and very strong. Both men are wicked but clean tacklers, experienced to a point where it is absolutely impossible to fool them, and next to impossible to box them; they cannot be put out of the play: Both combined a remark able ability to follow the opposing ends on kicks, and after the neutral z ne had been passed, to spill, the r o)ponents before or after the catch had been made. In receiving the forward pass both were adepts, Hardly a game was played by State that Piollet did not receive the ball on this play, while Kilpatrick won the game for Yale against Princeton lby his consummate skill in receiving the ball on a forward pass. Both Imen rounded out their careers as college 'players by wonderful play- I ing." —Philadelphia Public Ledger, ISunday, Dec. 4, 1910 by D. L. Reeves, Sporting Editor, Although Piollet is the only man who made a place on the first ream, "Alec" Gray secured a tight hold as a guard on the third team and sev eral more of our players were given honorable mention. Among the latter is "Burly" Watsr , n, who, though outweighed in almost every game during the season, played a wonderful game. He followed the ball like lightning and was hard to put out of the play s or get through. In the selection of , tackles "Henny" Weaver is mentioned and rightly so, for he played magnifi cent football all year and especially in his • last game at Pittsburg his playing was remarkable. Among other halfbacks to show more than ordinal y ability we find "Fritz" Barret. All yea' "Fritz" played a steady, consistent game and often by well executed punts he forced the ball up the field and out of danger. Last but not least comes "Shoity" Miller, our midget Fresh man quarterback His work during the season was indeed spectacular. He is a suie catcher of punts, quick to get_startecl after catching and possesses a wondeiful dodging ability in the open field. In the All-Western Pennsylvania Eleven chosen by W B. M'Vicker in the Pittsburg Dispatch, State is given five men on the first team and three pn the second. I x comment ing upon the men the writei says: "Penn State has first call on five positions on the first eleven The ends, Very, and Piollet are without I I MTV :7")(111Cr s (7 -- 1 r (.=: 1) ( fi r I (.-( \ h 130 East College Avenue A lull line of men's furnishings Custom made clothing by the Royal tailors Ni Pennants, and cushion tops -a - tine assortment Cleaning and pressing The Charles H. Harlow is undisputed possessor of left tackle by his bril liant work -here Thanksgiving day. Weaver at right tackle and Engle at leit half are the other two State men to earn their positions by their work on Thanksgiving." Qn the second team are three State, players, Johnson, Miller and Bai ron. Although Barron ,played a star game at half for us he has been shifted to full on the second team. This is a pretty fait representation to have on these two teams, and al though our season was not a howl ing success, still we may well feel pioucl of eery man on the team. 1912 La Vie The Class of 1912 has decided to dedicate their La Vic to Henry, Prentiss Armsby, Ph.
