THURSDAY, MAY 28, 1908 EDITORIAL. A recognition which should in deed be pleasing to the members of The debating team was shown last week when the executive committee of the board of trustees of the Col- lege voted to issue to each member of the team a certificate bearing the seal of the College, or if preferred by the debaters, to place the seal upon certificates provided by them. A reward coming from the student association would be appreciated, but this mark of honor, coming as it does from the board of trustees, will be prized even more highly. The action deserves hearty com mendation. Our athletics do much to wards establishing our reputation among other institutions,:, but in IHE STATE COLLEGIAN many classical schools a successful debating team is ranked as high as a successful baseball team. Among these schools, therefore, our debat ing team has done good work in es tablishing the name of Penn State. This recognition will serve to stimu late work along the line of debating, although it would seem that work more faithful and painstaking than that accomplished by our debaters in the past could scarcely be pos sible. The Regimental Inspection. Captain George C. Shelton of the General Staff of the U. S. Army came quite unexpectedly last Friday afternoon to inspect our regiment. At precisely 3:45 every man was in line and anxious to have the inspec tion over in spite of the threatening thunder storm. The Captain had the escort to the colors, regimental parade, review, and inspection scheduled for the afternoon, but the rain stopped proceedings during the parade. The inspection was finished Saturday morning in a hot sun, and Captain Shelton left town at noon to inspect Pennsylvania Military In stitute. The great delay in the arrival of the inspector was due to the rain which was prevalent all over his district He has been on this in spection trip since April 1 and must finish by June 1. We were number 23 on his list, but need have no superstition, for he informed Cap. tain Hay that our company lines in the review were the best' he has seen. This is something .to be proud of, for his trip has included such institutions as Michigan Mil itary Academy at Orchard Lake, Mich. He made no turther re marks, but seemed well pleased with the showing made. Any official re marks in his report will not be known by Capt. Hay for some time. Civil and Sanitary Theses.
