A College Emblem. A suggestion has recently been made by Captain Hay that is well worthy of our attention. The idea presented itself to the captain when the battalion attended the dedication at Harrisburg. At that time there was brought to his attention the con spicuous absence of a college em blem which should fly with the colors when the battalion is on parade. Just as a regiment has its own regimental flag, so should the college have an emblem to be used in all the ceremonies. At every im portant exercise, such as Pennsyl vania Day, Lincoln’s Birthday, and Commencement, this emblem should be in prominence. The device, which would con sist of the college seal in white, set in a background of blue, should be made of silk with gold fringe around the edges. Its size should not be less than four and one half by six feet. The cost would not exceed seventy-five dollars, an amount which could be raised by general subscription, or perhaps better, by contributions from the class treas uries. Captain Hay’s suggestion should be discussed among the stu dents, and brought up and acted upon at a mass meeting in the near future, and if it meets with general approval the emblem could be at hand by commencement time at least. Inter=Fraternity Bowling Tournament. The second annual inter-fraternity bowling tournament will begin on Friday night, Feb. 1, when Beta Theta Pi will compete with Phi Gamma Delta. Last year the con test was very close and was at all times watched with interest by the entire college. The Sigma Chi team last year won the beautiful banner for having the highest average at the conclusion of the tournament. The schedule of games is as fol lows : THE STATE COLLEGIAN FEBRUARY 1, 1907.
