THURSDAY, JAN. 31. 1907, EDITORIAL The project that is now under way will, if consummated, undoubtedly gave State facilities for carrying on her athletics that can hardly be ex celled by any college in the country. It must be remembered that the scheme has not yet reached a stage where work can be begun, but we have assurances that the plans are being very rapidly completed. For a long time State has been handicapped in her athletics on ac count of insufficient facilities. She has been forced to carry on the work under conditions that do not permit the achievement of the best results, which can be obtained under only the best conditions. The intercollegiate athletic record is, however, not the only, nor even the chief, object aimed at by those who are lending their efforts to the work; but should the better bodily development so necessary to good mental strength be attained, the worth of the scheme will be beyond question. THE STATE COLLEGIAN Last year the Collegian suggested that some one capable of handling the subject open up a voluntary class in parliamentary law similar to the class in after-dinner speaking. We note with pleasure that Mr. Ray of the history department has recently signified his intention of organizing such a class. How many men will avail themselves of this excellent opportunity to acquire a knowledge of this valuable subject ? Every graduate of this institution, whether he becomes a lawyer, a doctor, a chemist, or an engineer may need a knowledge of par liamentary law. Even in our under graduate days we notice a woeful lack of it in our class meetings. Those who have ‘ 'presidential bees in their bonnets” would do well to take the hint. Here is your chance; opportunity knocks at a man’s door but once; will you recognize your opportunity and seize it or let it pass ? Alumni Association. Whereas, Our beloved president, Dr. George W. Atherton, has passed away, we, the members of the New England Alumni Associa tion ot the Pennsylvania State Col lege, wishing to place upon our records our appreciation of his char acter and work, do hereby move and adopt the following resolutions: Resolved, That President Ather ton was to the college a great and enduring force. His persistent efforts to place the college in the forefront of educational institutions, his enthusiasm in the work, and his warm regard for the students were productive of excellent results. Resolved, That the foregoing be spread upon our records and a copy be sent to the family of the de ceased, and to the college publica tion. New England Alumni Association J. C.
