It U bold, pertinent, and to the joi:t : ' "(.JeNtlemen Tt is no time for talk ing now, Lut lor actojit. . Wc have con sumed eight months in inactivity, have wasted three hundred ' millions of dollars, and sicriSeeJ ruet.ty-irve tliousaud lives, and turned this country upside down in our insane endeavors to put down t'iis iuforna! rebellion and save slavery. I tell you it can't be dune;, and the guveru ment lias coins to that conclusion. Let me tell you, confidentially, that on Mon day last" they opened a new set of book?, and c::mc to the conclusion that if the Union can't be paved end slavery saved, then down goes slavery. The rebels have ithcr 0t to submit, or die, or ruu away. I tell you the time br.6 uoiae when play must stop. The rebels must submit, or be sent down forthwith to that hell al ready yawninr to receive them. This de ferrable consummation was eaected by a compromise. The radical meu agreed that the conservative tuen should carry on the war according; to their notions for eight months. The time is up for the conservatives, and they now hand the war mil its conduct over to the radicals, and every conservative man should now extend the same encouragement aud support which we gave to them in the prosecution of their method. There are in the South G'SOjOGi-i strong and loyal male slaves, who have fed and clothed "the rebel army, and hive ns good as fought upou their side. The other d:iy, while I was talking with the President, Old Abe said tome, 'Lane, how many black meu do you want to have tu take care of your army V I told him as my uirny would number 3 1,0'.'", I pro posed to Lave thirty-four thousand contra bands, in addition to my teamsters and wagon-musters. I consider every one of luv .soldiers ngaged in this glorious eru Fa.l.i a kniirht-erranr, and entitled to his -'iuirtu prepare bis food, black his boots, bed his gnu, arid take oil his drudgery. Vanity and pride arc necessary adjuncts f the sobiitM. ai.J 1 do not propose to 1 ever iiiru by nieniil offices, nor compel bim ij perform the duties of the slave. So, whi'j I shall elevate the slave by giv ing him bis free Ivtn and making a man cf him. I shall al-o elevate the soldier and leave him no work to do but fighting. (A voice in the crovvd 'What are you going to do with niggers The general, sin gling out the owner of the voice, and pointing his long fing t him, replied : 'Ah, my Irieud, you are just the man I have been looking for. I will tell you what I am going to do with them. I am going to plant them on .the soil of the Gulf coast, after we have got through this war ; let thcru stay there and culti vate the land; have government extend a protection to them, as it doe3 to the In dians, J fend superintendents and gov ernors among them, and pay them wages fcr their labor. There could be no com petition between black and white labor." He believed, whether the rebels liked tk lea or n ;t, that the blacks at no dis tant day would have possession of the Gulf cour.tr)', to which they were acclimated amd physically conditioned. He proposed to establish fixe state governments as he went along, r.nd he could promise bis hearers that cither he or the rebels would be cleaned out. Cunious Dr.vr.Lor.'UENT. The Lon don Critic, commenting on the death of Prince Albert, deplores the blow which lias fallen upon the nation by his death. It says it was the Prince Consort's advice which enabled the Cjueen to bear up againsi, such scheming Ministers as Pal merston, who cultivated a persoual ac qaairitancc with the London editors and had Prince Albert written, down an enemy to the country, because he did not wish L'nuland to ;0 to war with Russia. The Ciitic says : "We have reason to bdlevo that up to the time of his death, the Piince Consort raised his voice energetically against the haste with which Kugland is rushing into war with the United Stites an event which be denounced as subversive of her interests., dangerous to the real sources of her 'power, and certain to be advantageous cmy to the despotic powers of Euroy.-e. "Whether that view was wrong, such, we believe, was the faith in which the Prince Consort died." A OJhastly Joke. A r.egro went to lleaufcr; recently, as the bearer of a pack figc iroiu his owner, a Mrs Chisholm, to Commander Jiankhead, of the gunbo.it Pembina. The commander, it is well known, has been very active with his ves sd, performing many important services in the conduct oi .the war. tome of these serviees have been extremely painful, as it has been necessary for him to tnke up firms against personal friends, and even relatives, living in that" vicinity. Put lie has not flinched from his unpleasant duty. Among his acquaintances was this .Mis. Chisholm. wife of a planter, who expres-f-cd her appreciation (1) ol his patriotism by sending him a set of expensive rojfin lanJifs, with the intimation that the Lux Ihcv were intended to adorn wus ready for his reception as soon as he should come that way. In order to play this f :r'ru!:ir j he, the fair rebel sacrificed one of her trusty skives, who, finding himself' Mvu.ng the Yankees," "is content to remain i with them. I S3 Virtue ovcixoTite nty. Evans asd Watson: Gentlemen The small size No. 1 Salamander safe which I purchased from your agent. Mr. Adam R. Ci-r, in Lancaster City, on July 20th, 1833, has been subjected to a very severe test, which it withstood in a most satisfactory manner. Thi3 Safe, containing all my books together with va'u"ble papers belonging to myself and some to my ntKghbors and friends, and representing a val te of over Twenty Thous and Dollars, ($20,000) was in ray Mill which was destroyed on the night of the 27th of Ju ly, 18tJ0, and passed through the fiery ordeal unscathed. The Safe was on the second floor and fell to the basement of the Mill, and was subjected for six hours to an intense heat among the mi. is, which was greatly increased by the combustion of a large quantity of grain conlined within the brick walls After the lire the safo was opened and the books aud papers taken out in a state of perfect preser vation, the paper not even beiug discolored. This fact was, however, to many bystanders a better recommendation of your Safes than could be expressed in any other words from me. Yours Respectfully, sel3 SAMUEL RANCK.
