In the Senate, to day, the resolution calling on the President for information relative to the Oregon ne gotiation, offered some weeks since. by Mr J M. Clayton, was again 'taken up, and Mr Webster took occasion to express, at some length, his views of the course pursued by the executive with regard to the Oregon question, and the duty of the governments of both countries to bring this controversy to a spee dy termination by agreeing to settle it substantially on the basis of the offer made to Great Britain by the 11 States in 1826. He desired the further considera tion of the subject by the Senate to be. postponed for a month, in ordet to allow time for negotiation, which might obviate the necessity of the notice; and reques ted that M r Clap.on would allow_ his resolution to be passed over informally. Mr Allen replied, defending the administration from the charges of Mr Webster;and entirely repudiating the idea of any exhibtiun of ("sliming indecision on the part of the Sennte at this critical stage of - - s re- gun question. Mr J M Clayton made some remarks in vindication of his motives arid objects is offering the resolution— repeated in subi l tanca his reasons for desiring the no tice to be given at once—and concluded by expressing his willingness to allow his resolution to lie fat the present on the table, in defence of the wishes of gen tlemen on the other side of tho chamber.
