We have reason to believe, that the statements made in the following extracts are nearly correct A few - days since we were shown specimens of the SILVER as well as the core Sit ore referred to, and we know tee, that several of our citizens: stockholders in one of the copper compitnies, some weeks since, were offered a most extravagant price for the stock owned by them. The silver ore exhibited to us is certainly very rich, and wo were told t is Valued at $lO,OOO per ton. ' ; ;What a source of wealth - not only to the forte mete tiwnersof the mines but to the nation! IT the silver ore should prove of one-half •the valuO now supposed, there is no telling the effect it will; produce upon one monitory system; it will certainly greatly in crease the bullion of the nation, 'and give'the people silver coin in place of the 'small notes which now constitute almost our entire circulating medium. , . From the Cleveland Eleruld. REPORT FROM THE. COPPEW REGION. We have notbeen inclined to give.credit to all the big aeries that we hear about the copper and especiet ly the sUcerof the Lake Superior country. There Is no doubt murk exrggerntion--some of it in.ended to affect the-value nfatocks, and some not dishonest ly, but for want of knowledge of the' value of such 'mines. But the accounts come so thick upon us, and agree so 'well together that we cannot reject them en tirely.- There must be something extraordinary in those newly-mines, or else there is a most extensive Combination to deceive the coMmunity. We have pefore us extracts from three letters re ceived at Detroit within the past few days. deed Dr. Kinne, U. S. Surveyor at Fort Wilkin., Feb 5, 1840, says—"A few days since a Mass of pure copper was taken out of the earth, weighing. about wine ton'. Near the same place they are taking out "4'n ot another mass nearly as large. I have in two ot three instances seen them blast out lumps of pure silver weighing 30 or 40 pounds." A letter from Mr. A. Sherman, dated at the "Anse." \ In February, says—"l should not d ov. write yon what I have actually seen, did I not suppose hundreds of 'others would corroborate my statements. I have just returned f r om Copper Harbor by way of Eagle River. The silver is not like that found last summer in the Boston Co's mines, but runs in streaks and lumps, the Tatter sometimes as - lerge as n walnut, and sometimes much larger and of pure silver. JlTbey have got out two capper end silver rcn-ks. one weighing 1200 and the other 1800 pounds, tich nil• ver which stands out in masses and spangles. I visited tine copper rock of the Copper Falls Cern- PenY, five - miles from Free river. towutde Copper Harbor. They sunk 'a shaft 11 feet in diameter, 50 .feet below the surface, and struck a rein of copper Funning across the shaft. They have have cleared away from one side to the depth of 13 feet and on the other 41 feet. and have found neither end or bottom. It is 5 to 13Inches thick, and is computed to weigh 3 times ns much as the copper rock of the' Ontono gen. 1 picked up a piece of rock at Jennings. in which there ate streaks and lumps of silver as thick as my little finger. What I saw I lan hardly believe yet I ask you to believe it; fur it is every syllable true.— The North American Company's locution is hut about 20 rods from where they ore taking out this silver, and the vein runs into it. I was piejediced against. the capper mania until my recent trip, and Still think that those veins may not ititprova as they go down; but titers must be we whets there u so much native silver and copper." - Ross or Teammates AND THE ANTIES —We have been requested to publish the Report of Messrs L firMillen, Jonathan Rush end John Dean, who '; ' state that they were appointed a committee by the .....'Allegiteny Temperance Society to inquire into the nw tare and tendencies of the organization of the Sons • 'of Temperance!" We annex the resolutions append ed to the teflon, hut cannot find room for the report 'itself: We have, however, read the report, and find . . the committee urge, as a principal of to the or der, that they are a pledged secret society. We do not belong to the order, end of course, cannot say whether this statement is correct or no, nor do we regard that fact as important; but. we have made diligent inquiry and find that the order is rapidly in - creasing in numbers, and that it is efficiently promo ling the temperaince rotor mat ital. Why this attempt on the part of the advocates of Temperance to put down an institution which has dime, and still continues to do, so much for the cause? CURE OF BODY AND MIND.—The following is from a worthy citizen of Kensington, and o member of the Methodist chard.: Philadelphia, Jan 6,1846 Da. D. JATtig. —Dear Sii:—..luatieo eotapek me to make the following stntement of the eztenordinery efforts of your valuable medicine, the ALTERA- ME. I certify that my wife was afflicted fur fourteen, years, during which time her diatiase baffled the skill, of several eminent phyciciuns. Finding that every means that were used fail d to relieve het, I canclu led to place lier;in the Pennsylvania Hospital, hoping that, under the care an I treatment she would there ' receive feom the Physicians in that institution, she might again he restored to health. But to my great disappointment, she grew worse and became deranged in her mind, and I was obligetito take her home again, INCURABLE" and BEREFT OF REASON. I will hero mention that ut this time the more prominent symptoms of her disease were Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint, attended with sickness ni.the stomach, and vomiting of a very offensive firthd mucous, pains in her head, bark and stomach, and through the region of the heart, a tronblesome cough from large quentl ties of phlegm in her throat, which kept her cordite ally gagging and retching to throw it lip. She had no appetite, and was very weak. She also guttered very much from a uterine disease by which she was confined to her bed, having entirely lost the use of her limbs, and for several months wo had to lift her in and out of lied.' And to all the above, the deranged stated her mind (which at this time was truly awful,) and you will be able to form some ilea of her elUic. lions, By the advice of a friend we commenced giving her your ALTERATIVE, in the doses of a teaspoonful three times a day, and found that it helped 'nor. We also gave her your Vermiluge, to increase her appetite, and the Sanative Pills to regulata her bowels. She had not taken two bottles of the Alterative, before it operated upon her in a wonderful manner, filliag hor face with small red pimples, and caused her to corpec• torate large quantities of corruption, before which; her breath was so offensive we could not remain, in the room with her unless the doors were open. Finding the Alterative doing her so much good, we increased the dose according to the directions, and she continued to improve daily, until finally, she was restored to health in body as well asin mind. I hope you will delay no time in laying this before the public, as I a,n willing tribe qualified at any time to the truth of the above statement, and that it was your A LTEIRATIV E which cured her. All persons will be convicted' of the truth of this statement, by calling at my hose in Bedford street a. bone Marlboro.ours, with respect, /S A MUEL FIELDS. I:;tared.at No 8 sou t h Third street.
