There is nothing new from the army. The U. S. ■loop of war St. Mary's arrived at Aransas Boy on the 15th, with despatches fur Gen aylor Gam Washington. On the same day the Porpoise touched there and sailed towards Vera Crr.z. The steamer Dayton, with 30 or 40 persons on board, exploded her boiler on the 12th, between Corpus Christi and St Joseph's Island, killing Lieut Wiggins and Berry, of the 4th regiment of Infantry, and some 7 nr g others. besides slightly scalding 16 more. Capt Crossman, the Quarter master, and two officers, were blown about 100 yards, hut were only slightly injured. The boat sunk in fifteen min rites. The Gu‘ernment of Texas had issued an orrli• ounce intended to abrogate certain contracts entered into by the President of Texas with a number of per sons, who have thus come into the possession of about a million acres of land, under the pretence of settling colonies. It directs the the District Attorney to enter proceedings against all such colony contractors, whilst the actual settlers are to he protected. The Constitution which has been agreed upon it is thought will be accepred by the people without hest• tution. l're•id. rat Jones' proclamation directs the justices of the sec eta] counties to cause the polls to he opened on the 1:401 of October next, for the pur no, of taking 'he scone of the people of Texas in re gurd to the adoption or rejection of the Constitutiur.; abrr, for the pro pear of taking the expro.%ion of their npit,i,on fir Rid 14airt it Annexation; and also, for their op'oron upon the adoption or rrjccttun of 1110 ordinance which we ha.° co, ti above.
