From the Cincinnati Gazette. OLD BROWN DOG. There is an old brown dog, That roams about our streets, But no one knows from whence he came Or where be eats or sleeps. His name—his rice—and business here, Are hidden in a fog, Them seems to me a mystery About that old brown dug. He often haunts the post office, His letter never comes— He sometimes visits Louderisack's, But buys no sugar-plumbs— He curls himself beside the door Which leads to the Gazette, But never asks the latest news Nor seems disposed to bet. He dogs no master round, Like most of his degree, But through the longest winter day In one lone spot he'll be. And there with head between his paws, He lids mid snow or rain, As if 5017112 dog-ma wild and vague . Perplex'd his troubled brain. A wl.oftentimes I stop And gaze, and try to trace, The mournful thoughts that seem to flit Across his wrinkled face. Perhaps he dreams of days When filled was pin:lance's cup, Of days of sunshine, mirth and joy When he was but a pup. The coice he once obeyed May long have died away, But still he waits to hear its call Fro n weary day to day, He dreams of ancient times, Nor can he quite suppress A sigh—when visions real arise Of bones—now marrowless. Enough—l do not wish To pry in his affairs, But on his breast he seems to bear A weight of heavy cares. His name—his race—and business here Are hidden io a fog, There seems to ben mystery About that brown old dog. IMPORTANT TESTIMONY. DR SWALTNE, Dear Sir:—ln last October, while en• gaged with Mr Joseph Smith, in a saw-mill near Weyaesburgb, I was attacked with a cough from be ing exposed at night, which gradually increased, at tended with spitting of blood, and a severe pain in the breast, loss of appetite, fever, &c. &c. which was scarcely supportable. I had a family who were whol ly dependent on my exertions for support, yet I was obliged to leave my business and return home. I was then attended by several physicians, but still grew worse, until my medical attendants gave me up as an incurable. Subsequently, my wife observing, in one of the public prints, a n advertisement of DR. WORTHY FRIER M—Having made a thorough trial of the Medicated Vavor Bath for four months past, in our societies in New Lebanon and Watervliet, we think it but justice to state, that we consider it a valuable improvement in the healing art. Its power in reduc ing both chronic and acute infatuation, also in remov ing spasms, is certainly very great. In cases of ob structed perspiration, it is unquestionably the safest and best remedy that we have ever seen. Several persons in our society, who were scarcely free from a catarrhal affection during most of the winter months for several years past, have found permanent relief by using the Bath a few times; and the predisposition to take cold, as it is commonly termed, seems to be wind ly removed. Obstructed perspiration, is certainly in our changeable climate, one of the most fruitful sour ces of disease, and any remedy that is capable of re moving the predisposition to it, must be considered a great blessing to mankind; and as such we do not hesi tate to recommend the Medicated Vapor Bath.
