CONCERNED.— Among a certain class of self-Important pen piethere to a peculiar feeling of contempt attach ed t o all physicians that adverthie and treat the diseases named in this card, (PHlVthallisseetts,) wily this should be, they nor no one else can tell. Are they not aware that all physicians treat die. eases of every denomination, in fast solicit just the very diseases that are so obnoxious to these very refined parties. I suppose they would not let one of their family go to a party that has de voted years for their benefit, because he adverti ses the fact, and their family physician says he Is a humbug so he can get the case. Often he has almost deprived the party of his life. He comes at last to the physician that advertises—how else are they to know I Are they not aware that Sir Aat ley Cooper, Sir Benjamin Brodie, Sir Charles Ball'and M. Paul Ricord devoted years in the treatment of these diseases I These men are held up as shining lights in the medical world ; I don't assert that all men are worthy that publish, still there are a great number ot them that arc. I have devoted mini( to the study and treatment of PrtivaTE DISEASES upwards of 40 years, and without egotism can say I have saved hundreds from years of misery and untimely death. My treatment is confined to the vegetable all oge;her, as' I think it Is thebest and most certain. It is in my power to bring hundreds of certificates it I thought it necessary to certuy to my general me ccas t but my long residence in this city is *urn. dent proof without adding more. Sperniatorrhes and all diseases arising from is are cured do a Much shortertime than heretofore. It behooves every young - man and woman to be careful In Se lecting a physician. The different advertisements that are seen in our papers are of no worth, and no benefit will arise from answers than only loss of health and money. Hundreds are cured apnu. ally by my new remedies. Murder Taken Out of Tail to be Hanged. Front the Ottumwa Courier, July 24. Yesterday was an exciting day at Ot tumwa. It was the day on which B. A. McComb was sentenced to be hung, and on.which he would have been- hung had not an appeal to the Supreme Court staid the proceedings and postponed the execution. During the forenoon it was noticed that people in unusual numbers were coming into town, until by noon the streets Were crowded. The people did not seem excited, no threats were made, and in fact up to this time nothing trans pired to indicate any unlawful mnipose on the part of the multitude, estimated to amount to 2,000 men, women and children. The citizens generally suppose ed that the crowd, unapprised of the postponement of the executionihad come in impelled by cariosity to see:McComb hung. • About twelve o'clock, however, im pelled seemingly by a common purpose, the crowd gathered about the jail, and the leaders confined to some doze/flier sons, avowed their purpose to get hold of the prisoner McComb and bane him. Sheriff Derby was at his post and resisted the execution of their purpose to the best of his ability, knocking down some two or three of the ringleaders. He also call• ed for assistance, and was assisted by a few. Senator Dixon, Judge Hemdershott, Hon. E. H. Stiles, and Captain A. A. Stuart addressed the crowd, urging thew to desist, and let the law take its course. All however, had no apparent restrain ing effect. A woman mounted the fence, and ' made an exciting harangue, urging on the mob; and saying if they would leave it to the women they would attend ter, it themselves. A vote was taken, which was decribed to be in the favor of the hanging. A rush was now made for the front door of the jail, one fellow brand ishing a sledge hammer. But Sheriff Derby and the few assisting him made such effectual resistance that it is proba ble the attempt might have been foiled had not part of the crowd gone round to the back side of the building, and knocking off two or three boards of the fence surrounding the yard, effected an entrance, alter which, with a sledge hammer, the outer door was broken open and then the locks in the cell in which McComb was confined were bro ken and the prisoner dragged out. He asked for an hour, which was given him, to prepare fur death. A clergy. man was sought, and he was finally taken into the Catholic church and bap• tized by Father Kreckle, the crowd fol lowing. After this he was led clown town by way of Court and Front streets to the corner of Market, end was then placed in a' wagon and was.started, ac companied. by an immense multitude, it was given out, for the other side of the river, near where the remains of the girl were found, but if such was the pur pose, it was changed after half the crowd had forded the river, and they finally moved off down Front street. They went out about a mile on the Agency road, where preparations were commenced for the exertion. A rope was tied mound the neck of the prison er. Some speaking and some lighting among the crowd followed. After h short halt, facilities for an execution were not deemed satisfactory, and they crossed over the bridge and baited un• der a bent tree, but the ground was so uneven that it was difficult to keep the wagon stationary. They finally, how ever, got the rope adjusted, Alc(3onib Rs- Nisting, and were about throwing it over a limb. Before this was done, however, McComb requested permission to make a few remarks. Be said: "I have the rope around my nick as you see, and have only a few iiiieutes to live, but lam an innocent man. If you will give me until the next court I will plove that George Lawrence is living, and that I did not murder Laura Har vey," At this point. a cry was raised all through the crowd "take hint back, take him back," accompanied by the cry of "hand' him, hang him." The leaders, fearing that the tide was turning, said that it was getting late, 'and they could wait no longer. An attempt was made to throw the rope over the limb, but while this was being done, several res olute men, some of them from Ottumwa, jumped into the wagon, and seizing the rope attempted to wrest it from the' ex ecutioners. A short struggle for, the possession of the rope iollowed, when some one called out "cut. No soon er said then done. The tope was cut, McComb hustled out of that wagon into another and driven rapidly to town, where they arrived a little after six o'clock, and lodged. McComb safely in lia-old quarters again. During the even ing the sheriff, assisted by the "guards," arrested six. or eight persons, recognized as leaders of the mob, lodging some in jail and releasing others on bail.
