Mr. B. commenced by stating that he had been a Whig as long as the Whig par ty heeded the teachings of such statesmen as Daniel Webster and Henry Clay ; and that no one could have entertained more bitter prfjudices against the Democratic party than he had felt in former years. Hat a time had come when he was corn. pelled to accept the oft repeated declara tion of the Republican leaders7'that there are but two parties now in the loyal States of the Union—one for the national govern• . ment, and one against it ; and those who desire the preservation of our free inetitu tione must choose between them. He re, garded the Constitution as the creator of the Government ; and an Administration which violates fundamental law is its worn; enemy. Ho presented the leading principles upon which the great charter of our lib• , erties is based, and showed that in all its essential features it had been disregarded by the Administration now in power. It was designed to form a political system which might, with truth, be called the , working man's government ; for it differed from the monarchies and aristocracies of the old world, in this essential point, that it especially secured the freedom and just privileges of the humblest citizen ; and while it enabled him to enjoy national rib erty, it freed him from the burtheus of taxation, which in other countries take so large a part of the earnings of the indus trious classes ; and be could not under stand how any intelligent man pursuirg an honest and Troductive calling, could sus tain a party which tramples upon consti . tutional rights; and which by the de claration of many of its leaders, and the whole course of hir.Lincoln's ad ministration, has evinced a desire to demolish the Government, which for a greater part of a century has given the people of our country unexampled pros perity, in order to deba e the great mass of citizens of our free Republic to the le vel of the African negro. The God of Nature has made the African inferior in intellect, as is proved by his whole history, from the time he was sculptured in the at• titude of a servant on Egyptian mono• ments, down to the present day. Although in all ages he bas been placed in contact with the highest civilization, we never see him anything but a slave, or a wild savage. Science as well as history shows his infe riority, and all the theories which fanatics can invent, will never make equal what the wise Ruler of the Universe has made unequal. It is not humanity to the negro to force him into a position for which na tare has not designed him. earnest language the people were n ed to look with serious and unpreju diced minds at what must be the inevita ble results of the gross violations of the fundamental law of the nation by the amen who are now abusing the power they hold. The Democratic party had freely given ell that was asked by the Administratior, to enable it to, subdue the rebellion. When 75,000 men were called for, to pro tect the National Capitol, Democrats sprung to arms with alacrity, and again when five hundred thousand were asked for, they came forth in such numbers that some of the Republican leaders declared that there were more men in the army than were needed, and enlistments were • stopped. When money was asked for, it was voted without stint. No nation on the earth had even been so bountifully supplied, and yet when the blunders of the Administration and its illegal pro-1 ceedinge had caused disasters. and united the South against the Government, Be publican demagogues and journals turn upon the Democrats of the free States, and denounce them as rebel sympathizers i and traitors, and endeavored to make theM the scape-goats to bear the sins of the reckless party whose unpatriotic con duct has caused so vast an expenditure of blood and treasure, with such poor results. 1 1 The negro policy of the abolitionists wh o I control the action of Mr. LuNcoi.N, has rendered the submission of the rebels hopeless, and without the abandonment of their unconstitutional course there can be no hope of a restoration of the Union. Mr. B. presented the oppressive charac ter of.the conscription law, and expressed the belief that such a measure was not needed. There would be no difficulty found in recruiting the army, if the domi nant party would do j,astice to the private soldier. Three things should have been done: 1. The pay should have been made equal to the ordinary earnings of mechan ics and working men, so that the families of soldiers might not suffer while they are absent. No conscription is necessary Co procure officers. 2. Soldiers, when dererving, should be PRINTERS. --- Pittsburgh Cloak and Mantilla Store. Wo refer the reader to the advertise ment of Mr. M. J. Notwithstand ing the lies of the Abolitionists that in Fayette county the laws of the Govern ment have been resisted time and again, the friends of Curtin could not get up a demonstration that would do honor to a ward meeting of this city. The enthusiasm was of a very feeble nature, and the char acter of those in attendance below medi ocrity in intelligence. Such demonstra tions as these are doing wonders for. the Democracy, and the opponents of the Union as it is, and the Constitution as it was, in Fayette county, are becoming lamentably small for their comfort. The weather is all that e, uld be desired, hence the expeditionary corps will not suffer any frOm unfavorable wind and tide. The destination is unknown even to those participating. The boats left under sealed orders, which are not to be opened until a certain point is reached. A place of rendezvous has been appoint ed, where the various commanders are to meet and adopt such measures as will in sure the success of the expedition. Major General .F osier planned the campaign, and entrusted his plans to only a tow com petent and trust worthy officers, in whom he reposes every confidence. The object of the expedition is to strike a severe blow on a vital point, and, if properly carried out, will have a telling et feet, and may be conducive in hastening on the fall campaign on both sides. At all events,, the rebels will be compelled to concentrate a large force, if none is there at present ; and should the latter be tl.e case, our troops are numerous enough to fight a heavy engagement, and the read will be more than a Union victory. INCINIcATI, Oct.- 6. —Dobell'a bureau and chair factory, on Sixth street, was et tirely destroyed by fire last night. The lumber yard and three adjoining houses were damaged. The loss is about fifty thousand dollars. The firm were partial 1 ly insured. Private advices from Chattanooga, to the let, represent our army in fine spirits, and its position impregnable. LOUISVI E, Oct. 6—A Nashville dispatch to-day says the rebels burned the railroad bridge at Stewart's creek, another over Stone river; after the capture of Mc- Minnville on Saturday by the rebels under Wheeler, they burned one locomotive, ten cars, and took a number of the railroad men as prisoners. Subequently Colonel McCook with his brigade of Federal cav alry attacked them tbere, scattering them in every direction. The rebels left all the prisoners they had taken. several hundred horses were captured, and killed and wounded one hundred and twenty live, and took ninety prisoners. On Sun day morning Wheeler's cavalry appeared before Murfreesboro driving the Federals into their entrenchments, and threatening the town. After remaining all day and part of the night they retired. The Nashville Journal editorially says: Wheeler, with near eight thousand rebel cavalry and mounted infantry, has sue ceeded in getting into the roar of Rose crane, and threatens to break his railroad connections. There seems to be spies all along from Chattanooga to Red river, watching for weak points. Our forces at• tacked and captured four hundred rebels, who were tearing up the track near Chris tiana. WASHINGTON, October 6 —A band o guerrillas under the famous White of Lou• don county, Va., made a raid last night into Langley station, six miles above Georgetown, driving in the pickets. They had two pieces of artillery. Major Gen. Hancock writing to a friend in Washington, expresses a hope to rej:in the army within three weeks. rE CITY, Ky., Oct. 6 .—Hughes or flsmilton, with a small force of rebels, dashed into Glasgow"abont sunrise, ear pri.ing and capturing our forces there. and taking possession of the bank. GILMORE RAILRO.kD BRIDGE BURNED &c., ttc., •te , &e. NEW YORE, Oct. 6 —The Post says : By the arrival of the steamer Fulton at this point from Charleston, we have a re port, apparently on good authority, that the headquarters of Gen. Gilmore had been removed from Morris Island to Folly Island; the continued sinking of the beach rendering the removal of the Feder al h eadquarters a measure of convenience, while there are sanitary reasons which would ultimately be controlling. There are said to be other causes for the charge, a - nong them is teat the troops will not be less available in the future operations against Charleston, and they are entirely gut of maga of any batterie s the rebels have or can erect on James Island. Recent firing from Gen. Gilmore's bat teries, of which we have received news from rebel sources, were directed almost exclusively against the efforts that were making, .and waich the rebels dare not disclose. to erect new batteries in the ru ins of Ft. Sumter. It appears that our reconnoitering boats which passed near the walls during the night, discovered that the garrison were preparing extensive op erations and indicati , na were, that the rebels, who were working in large num bers, were building batteries inside of the ruins with the intention of tieing them when the works should be suffic'ently ad vanced to justify the removal of the broken walls and debris which protected the work men, and concealed their operations from view. The rapid and heavy firing of our guns, it is expected, will not only stop this work, but render the rebel's oc cupation of Sumter precarious if not itn• possible. Gen. Gilmore's operations en Morris' Island are actively prosecuted.. The battery on Cummings' Point now shells our troops perfectly, while the con dition of Wagner is such, as to protect the troops from all hazard, still there are a few casualties all of which occur in con sequence of unnecessary exposure. Bat teries which are designed to throw Greek fire are nearly completed, and recent ex periments have - shown that the fire may to safely and effectually need. Charleston is wit./.in fair range of all the guns already plated, and which are in such numbers is will insure the destruction of the city, where they are turned upon it. The event will not take place until other plane are complete, and the navy is ready to co operate with the army. The complaints against Admiral Dahlgren are universal. Our naval officers and sailors believe that Admiral Farragut will soon take com mand of the fleet in Charleston harbor, and they express the utmost confidenc e that the result of the operations there un dertaken, will be successful. There is no use in attempting to disguise the fact, the oil market is about as dull as it - can be, there being no buyers at thd present rates. Sales made on private terms are pretty well un derstood by those - engaged in the buiiness. Whilst the snide is steadily declining in New York, it is shear folly to expect to sell at the rates demanded here. The stocks in this market is not large, but at the present prices far exceeds the demand, in fact buyers refuse to take hold at the present asking rates. As we said yes erday the best market for oil is at Oil City, and the wells where the article is procured, one of our most in tedigent dealers informed us, that he had written to some of the largest dealers who supplied him with oil, advising them to sell on the spot in preference to shippin g to this market.
