HURSDAY MORNING, OCT. 23 A Speck of War wish Spain: EW Yonic, October Ig.—By the arrival of Lhe steamship Saxon, from Havana, it ap7ears that considerable excitement had been caused at Havana, and throughout th l entire island, by an alleged "outrage" by the officers of an Amelican man•of- Wer. The facts of the case are briefly th‘te n the afternoon of the 7th instant, a amer was seen rapidly approaching the !anish coast, about six miles to the west :rd of Moro Castle, pursued by a man• war. pi he steamer had British colors flying at - time, and the pursuer, from her gen l appearance, was a United States yes- The captain of the British ship was -arly endeavoring to make for the bar ' A. of Havana, but the Federal beaded !r off, the vessel was forced to run ore. Launches were at once dispatched from th • cruiser to capture the captain and the cw, and to get off the steamer if possi• bl i . NO sooner had the launches touched sl ore, however, v.hen a detachment of S anish soldiers were seen approaching, o the appearance of which the comman d r of the boat gave directions to fire the ✓ ssel, which was immediately done, and the launches returned to the war steamer, taking with them thepilot of the destroy• ed vessel, whom they had captured. The cruiser immediately proceeded to sea. The ship destroyed proved to be the steamer Blanche, last from the port of Mo lt, where she had stopped for coal. As to her mission and to where she he 'l aged accounts differ. Some say that she ritsa slaver, others, doubtless more cor ct, affirm that she hailed from Port La vicca, Texas, and had a cargo of cotton. The man-of-war is supposed to have been either the Dacotah or Montgomery, bt these suppositions are doublers erro rous,,,is neither of these vessels could h ve been in that neighborhood at the ti i me. The affair, as above stated, has cause a great sensation among the "Dons," and anish men-of-war were at once dispatch e to demand of the Federal Commander, 3 explanation of the conduct, but they ✓ turned without finding him. It is said the facts of the case will at .nce be laid before the home government. 89,786 66 1,821 00 • 27,919 33 Oresson B rines, Cambria 00., Pa. tf .
