Although not disposed to favor or recommend Patent Medicines in general, through distrust of their ingredients mid effects; I yet know of no sufficient reason why a man may not testify to the benefit be believes himself to have received from any simple preparation in the hope that he may thus contribute to the benefit of others. I do this the more readily in regard to Roof land's German Bitters, prepared by Dr. C. M. Jackson, of this city, besot - me - I was prejudiced against them for many years, under the impres sion that they were chiefly an alcoholic mixture, lam indebted to my friend Robert Shoemaker, Emits,r the removal of this prejudice by proper and for cnecuragement to. try them, when sutferingfroto great and long continued debility. The use of three bottles of these Bitters, at the beginning of the present year, was followed by evident relief, and restoration to a degree of aodily and mental vigor which I had not felt for ix months before, and had almost depaired of re ainiug. Hannibal Hamlin, in a 'public speech in Maine, within a few weeks, said to the effect that whoever was opposed to Abo litionism deserved to be hung. The Repub.lean Party before the Election. The following is the sixth of the series of resolutions composing the platform of the Republican party, as adopted at the Chicago Convention, in 180 . Resolved, THAT THE PEOPLE JUSTLY VIEW WITH ALARM THE RECKLESS EXTRAVA GANCE WHICH PERVADES EVERY DEPART MENT OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT; THAT A RETURN TO RIGID ECONOMY AND ACCOUNT ABILITY IS INDISPENSABLE TO ARREST THE SYSTEMATIC PLUNDER OF THE PUBLIC TREASURY BY FAVORED PARTIZANS-WHILF THE RECENT STARTLING DEVELOPMENTS OF FRAUDS AND CORRUPTIONS AT THE FEDERAL METROPOLIS SHOW THAT AN ENTIRE CHANGE OF ADMINISTRATION IS IMPERATIVELY DE MANDED." The Republican Party after the Election. The following confession was made by the Hon. Mr. Dawes, a Republican mem ber of Congress from Massachusetts, on the 25th of .April, in which he ex- 1 posed the corruptions of Lincoln's Ad ministration : "The gentlemen must remember that in the first year of a Republican Adminis tration, which came into power upon pro fessions of Reform and Entrenchment, there is indubitable evidence abroad inthe land that somebody has plundered the Pub lk treasury well nigh in that single year as much as the entire current yearly ex pense of the Government during the Ad ministration which the people hurled from powerbecause of its corruption." Warming or Hoary Clay. Extract from his Speech in the IT. 3. Senate, February 8, 1889. Abolition should no longer be regarded as an imaginary danger. The Abolition km, let •me suppose, snowed in their present aim of midair the inhabitants Of the free States as one man he mishit i Jai NINIGI, SE habitants of the slave States. Union on one side will.beget union on the other. And .this process of reciprocal consolida tion will be attended with all the violent prejudices, embittered and implacable an tmosities which ever degraded or deform ed human nature. A virtual dissolution of the Union will have taken place while the forms of ite existence remain. The condition of affairs in this State is expressed in one word—precarious! A very general impression prevails that a large Rebel army independent of Hind man and Holmea (who is at little Rock) is rapidly organizing somewhere between Fort Smith and Texas for the invasion of Missouri. For many months vague ru mors have been from time to time receiv ed relative to an advance on this State by rebels commanded by Gen. H. Sibley, the same individual who made the' raid with his Texan hordes into New Mexico as far as Santa Fe, and then retreated. Sibley has oonsiderrble artillery at his disposal, and the rumors alluded to have invarably stated that Sibley had been ordered to in vade Missouri by Jeff. Davis. Nothing definite is really known regard. ' irg Sibley's present whereabouts, unless I officers at headquarters have received the information lately. Nothing is feared at present from Hindman or Holmes. They have all they can conveniently take care of in watching Gen Steele, who commands Curtis' splendid army in the vicinity of Helena. If the'projected invasion from Texas is not an accomplished fact within the next six weeks, the day when it might have succeeded will . probably have passed. Although the interior is full of rebels ready to spring to arms as guerillas or Southern soldiers at a moments call, that game is not really so dangerous as it used to be. The next six weeks are of immen. se importance to this State. At the ex piration of that time the State Militia will be organized, armed and eqaipped in nearly every county in the State.-- When this is done, and competent officers appo . inted to command, guerrilla out brews may be, and probably will be, promptly suppressed.
