Leopold Suit, one of our oldest and most respected German citizens, who died yes terday morning, after an illness of some two weeks. Col. Sahl was a native of rreyburg, Germany, and emigrated to this country itt 182 C. He worked here as a shoemaker for some years, and then opened a tavern on Smithfield street, which was burned down in the great fire of 1845 Subsequently he opened a hotel on Water street, and afterwards a liquor store, which ne earned on very successfully, amassing a handsome competency. Col. Sahl leaves a wife but no children, his only son, Capt. Leopold Sahl, jr., having been killed in an engagement with the rebels in Virginia. Lol. bahl was a liberal man and a good citizen, contributing largely to the support ot public charities, one of which—the orphans Asylum on Troy Hill—he was the principal founder.
