How to Collect War Material. A correspondent of the Charleston Mer cury, writing from Maysville, S. C., on the lGth ult., under the name of Sumter," says: "I see in our paper or to-day an wit cial call for lead; a call for sulphur and saltpetre bad previously appeared. I would respectfully suggest to the ordnance officer that some energetic man in each city, town and village of the State, if prac ticable, be requested to act as agent in pro curing each of the above articles. Gale s some depot for these essential articles is established in each district, hundreds of citizens Who would cheerfully give them for our defense will be debarred the privi lege. Certainly any man who, at this . critical period of our county's history, would hold back from the government any property whatever which might atd in our defense is infatuated beyond hope or re demption. Come up, fellow citizens, in every possible way to the rescue. Move with speed and energy, and our country shall be free. Delay, and our cause ii lost. A Troy Female Acting an a Lieu- tenant ou the Ptitomite. The Troy Badget learns, from a private correspondence, that one of the companies on the Potomac has, fur a short time, been in command of a good looking lieu tenant, who turned out to be a lady from that city. Being a woman, she could not well put away womanish ways, and she was arraigned before a military tribunal, where she plead guilty to the charge of belonging to what is generally denominated the weak er sex. It would seem that she was en gaged to the captain of the company, and adopted what she considered the best., if not the must proper way; of manitesting her attachment for him. We presume that she was tendered leave of absence as a re sult of the investigation. ExTme religious liberty is to be secured by law in Austria, exceptingthat up to the age of eighteen children must follow the creed preferred by their parents. The en joyment of civil and political rights is not to depend on religious confession, nor to be subject to any restriction en - that ac count. Difference of religion will not form a civil obstacle to marriage. Profes sors of all beliefs are equally admissable by law to all dignities, functions and pub lic employments. Every church or relig ious society has the right publicly to carry out its worship. with a reserve as to meas ures necessary to secure public order. The law grants to all churches and religious societies this legal right. There is to be no State privileged religion. Discontented Fugitives. The Fortress Monroe correspondent of the Baltimore American writes that among the contrabands at Old Point there are a large number of women and children, and aged men, still under the protection of the government agent, who must be fed and clothed, and who seem disposed to per form but little labor in return. Asa gen• eral thing, they express no desire to go North, deplore the war, and hope for a re turn of peace, and a restoration of their former happy homes. 102,9EG 25 89.786 Gfi 1.821 00 27.919 3.1 Tae Newbern, (N.
